Series: Grayson Friends bk 2
Author: Francis Ray
Genre: Contemporary
IT’S NEVER TOO LATE
Cicely St. John is not impressed by her friend C.J. Callahan’s so-called passion in life: running a New York City bar that he inherited from his uncle. So why can’t Cicely stop thinking about the dance they shared at their mutual friend’s wedding—or the mutual attraction she felt in C.J.’s arms?
TO GIVE LOVE A CHANCE
As far as C.J. is concerned, Cicely is a snob whose “passion” in life—writing for fashion magazines—is as pretentious as she is. So why can’t he keep his eyes off her? C.J. has a business to run. And Cicely has a job opportunity in Paris. Neither of them even has time to think about romance right now. But maybe, just once, the two could test their friendship…with just one kiss.
Francis Ray is fast becoming one of my favorite contemporary authors. She has a way of taking very complex characters and putting them in situations where they have to become better than who they thought they were, and also better together.
C.J. is a man who loves his family and would do anything for them, so when he’s asked to take over the family business he does, although it’s the very last thing he wants to do. He’s very happy with his life, his best friends Alex and Sin, and his bar Callahan’s. He’s made room in his circle for Alex’s wife Dianna and his cousin Summer. However he tolerates Cicely. That is until one night when they share a scorching hot kiss.
Cicely has a plan and C.J. is definitely not in those plans. So when a kiss becomes more she decides to lay down the rules. They can enjoy each other however it can’t be permanent as she is moving to Paris in 6 weeks. What she never expected was to not only really like him, but that he would matter.
Watching these two go from semi-friends to lovers and friends is like watching a great love story unfold. One of those love stories where the characters have no clue that they have just meet the great love of their life and that while they can be happy by themselves they will always be better by having that other person with them. C.J. and Cicely are like.
While I liked Alex and Dianne’s story I LOVED C.J. and Cicely. There was something almost seamless in their story and while they have their ups and downs and struggles when it finally came down to it they love each other.
To understand the animosity between these two in the beginning you do need to have read the first book insert book title.
