Title: 72 Hours
Series: Devlin Group bk 1
Author: Shannon Stacey
Genre: Contemporary
A while back I read an excerpt about a mom that was a former covert operative and whose son was kidnapped and to get him back she had to deliver the father of her son. The problem was that I couldn’t remember the name of the book or the name of the author. So when I was surfing through Shannon’s website I clicked on her covert op series and lo and behold there was the book that I had been hunting for. So I immediately bought it and then devoured it in a few hours.
Grace Nolan walked away from the Devlin Group carrying Alex Rossi’s child in her womb and his bullet in her shoulder. But a ghost from the past has kidnapped her son, Danny. The ransom—Alex Rossi. To get her son back, Grace will have to step back into the life she’d left behind and reveal her secret to Alex.
With vengeance for his mother’s murder nearly at hand and a deadly substance on the loose, the last thing Alex Rossi needs is to find himself at the business end of Grace’s gun. Now the clock is ticking as they race to save a child and stop a madman bent on destruction.
But Alex has a secret of his own, and it may be the ultimate betrayal.
Alex has regretted the decision he made all those years ago that made Grace leave him and never look back, let alone have a child with the doctor that treated her. When he gets the call that she is on her way to him, he sees it as an opportunity to fix what went wrong all those years ago. What he never expected was for to have kept a secret so huge from him.
Grace never wanted to see Alex again. He had shattered her heart with the decision he made to shoot her to kill the bad guy. So she left, disappeared from his life completely (or so she thought) and got on with her life. When her son is kidnapped and the ransom is Alex she doesn’t hesitate to go after him.
This is a very fast passed book and is a definite page turner as you are never quite sure who the real bad guy is till the end and even then it is a bit of a surprise. The tension between Alex and Grace is perfect as they have all these unresolved issues from that incident years ago, plus the fact that they still have feelings for each other and then there is Grace’s son and the reality of whose son he really is, and then the secret that Alex has kept from everyone but two people that has the potential to destroy what they could possibly have.
I loved every minute of this book and wanted to read it again as soon as I had finished reading it. It has it all a great story line, amazing characters, action, sexual tension, and reunited lovers given a second chance.
If you are a fan of Shannon’s than you will love this book. It is different from her Kowalski family series, but in a good way.
