Series: Forbidden Book #4
Stand Alone Title: yes
Author: R.L. Kenderson
Genre: Paranormal, Romance
Blurb: With a tortured past, she’s a cat-shifter who refuses to get close to anyone. Yet she can’t seem to resist the leader of the vampire protectors.
Phoenix Kaplan has never felt a connection like the one she has with Dante Leonidas. She might service him monthly, allowing him to feed from her blood, but as much as her body tells her differently, she knows it can be nothing more, not with her insecurities and inability to be intimate with a male.
That is, until she realizes the one thing she desires most in the world is something he can give her…and she propositions him to impregnate her.
She’s never wanted anything more than to be a mother, and all she needs is this one thing from Dante.
Although he should refuse, Dante can’t resist the temptation. He’s addicted not only to her blood, but also to the enigma that is purely Phoenix. And he is determined to prove to her that he can give her much more than what she asked for.
She might protect her heart with an impenetrable wall, but he’s willing to do whatever it takes to break down that wall in order to get what he desires most in the world.

Thoughts: R.L. Kenderson has quickly become one of my favorite authors….with each book this series just keeps getting better and better! This book features Phoenix and Dante – characters with which we have been introduced to in previous books, and ones I couldn’t wait for to get their own storyline. The writing is intense, yet playful, and the author strikes a good balance emotionally for the reader. While – of course – it is best to read them in order, it can be read as a stand alone. There is a lot of switching character viewpoints in these books – you go from this couple, to that potential couple, back to the original couple – which I typically don’t like, but it just seems to work for these books.
One thing that particularly stood out to me in this book was the introduction of a M/M storyline. Now, I have read books solely on M/M storylines before and it can be done in such an elegant way and it just fits the overall ‘world’ of a series we already love. When the book first started heading in that direction I admit I was hesitant, and even had a moment where I was critical because all the books seem to have one couple in a world that seems to involve a M/M angle. The author, however, managed to pull it off. By the end of the book I was caught up in it and hoping things manage to work out for these two males who seem to have all the odds stacked against them.
To get back to Dante and Phoenix, though, we seen those sparks in previous books. These two are so serious most of the time, but they managed to lighten up and have some funny moments that just appealed to me. This book lived up to the prior books and just captivated me. Loved this addition and anxious for more!
