Thoughts:
I have no issue with erotica, and usually enjoy it, but this one just wasn’t up my alley. For me, this one just went way past erotica and was just an outright porn – a literary one of course, but porn nonetheless. Nothing wrong with that – some people like porn. I expect a bit more to my stories though. That, however, is not why I am giving it a C. Some people just like the nitty-gritty, down-and-dirty sex, and could care less about the actual storyline – and if that is what you are looking for then this one certainly delivers! The scenes were smoking hot and really it never went more than a few pages without seeming to fall back into random sex. If you’re looking for just some outright hot scenes then you can’t get any better than this.
There were a lot of inconsistencies that bothered me however, and some things that just hit me the wrong way. My first major complaint is the fact that this girl is supposed to be a virgin – yet she raises not one eyebrow at being not only with two men, and not three, but four!….and doesn’t even need to work through it and wrap her brain around the idea – even in her own head! She doesn’t even raise an eyebrow at getting it on with two guys in a truck – even though, again, she is a virgin. It’s also unrealistic that she makes through sex scene after sex scene, and yet still makes it the majority of the book without losing her virginity – and without any of the guys attempting to push the issue or even assume that things might go further. My next is the fact that the father of the Harper ‘boys’ also never raises an eyebrow at the fact that all four of his sons plan on keeping the same girl as theirs – and on a long term basis. Not an eyebrow. Please, even as open minded as I am, an eyebrow would – at least – be raised here….I mean, seriously?!
And then we come to Mac – the most *insert cuss words here* of the brothers. With some of the things he said – and some of the things he did – there is no way in hell that she would be as forgiving as she is. Not even a slap on the wrist. Instead we – metaphorically – get nothing but a shrug of the shoulders and the story moves on. And don’t even get me started on the relationship between Sage and her best friends….!
Really, the scenes were hot, and the author is very talented….it’s just not my cup of tea. Though I can imagine that some people would really enjoy it. Without all the inconsistencies to the storyline, and hard-to believe unrealistic reactions, I probably would have rated it higher.
