Series: Petal Georgia bk 2
Author: Lauren Dane
Genre: Contemporary
He’s faced down every demon…except one fast-talking Southern girl.
It hasn’t been easy for Joe Harris to live down his not-so-honorable past, but the military made him a better man. He’s determined to make up for past mistakes, starting with coming home to care for his ailing father.
Things are going as planned until his best friend’s little sister comes barreling into his life. Funny, quick talking, smart, beautiful, she’s a temptation he tries—and fails—to resist.
When Beth Murphy hears Joe is back in town, she makes sure she’s the first on his welcoming committee. Though he tries to pretend he’s gruff and unworthy of her, she sees the man who spoils his dog, who touches her like she’s precious. Cherished. But there’s one wall she can’t break down—the truth about what’s happening at home.
On the night the nature of his father’s illness becomes painfully, publicly apparent, Joe does the right thing—push Beth as far away as possible. But if he thought she’d go away quietly, he’s about to learn she’s made of sterner stuff.
It will come as no surprise to anyone that I loved this book. I have enjoyed every book Lauren has ever written. Some more than others, but this isn’t one of them.
This is one of those books of her’s I could honestly read over and over again its that good. We first met Beth in Making Chase when her sister and business partner Tate fell for one of those Chase brothers. Then as her brother Nathan reunited with Beth’s best friend Lily in Once and Again.
One of the things I have always liked about Beth was she went after what she wanted and didn’t make any excuses for it. So when Joe a boy she’d had a crush on comes back into town, no longer a boy but very much a man. Well she does what she has to do win him.
Joe on the other hand, all he wants to do is take care of his family and make a new life for himself in his hometown. He’s not looking for love, romance or a HEA after. Sex, yes. Love , no. He does his best to resist Beth, but she’s persistent and he’s a man so he caves.
I loved this story. Both Beth and Joe are flawed, and they want different things in life, and yet together they work.
Their road to HEA isn’t an easy one, and it’s one that I think a lot of people have to travel especially when someone has a sick parent and is trying to shoulder everything on their own. But the journey for these two is one I know they had to traverse because it made them better individually and also as a couple.
If you are fan of Lauren’s books, especially her Chase Brothers series then you won’t want to miss out on this book.
