From the first glimpse he knew he must have her-even if only for a single night…
Powerful, ruthless, seductive-the lord of London’s underworld-Roman Merrick gets anything he wants…and he burns for Charlotte Chatsworth, a polished jewel in the glittering ton. So he engages her debt-ridden gambler father in a game of chance, wagering ten thousand pounds against one night with the man’s exquisite daughter. And Roman Merrick never loses.
But one night is never enough…
Charlotte is devastated to learn that her reprobate father has lost her in a card game to the most dangerous man she’s ever met. With the threat of ruin behind every corner, Charlotte embarks upon a perilous path with the man she can not forget. But in truth, it’s Roman who has everything to lose-for a game undertaken for pleasure alone soon has him gambling his heart. And love and passion unleashed could bring his great, dark empire tumbling down…
This was a book that I had problems putting down and when I had to I could not wait to pick it back up, darn school for getting in the way of my reading. I fell in love with these characters, Roman who knows what he wants and will do anything to get it except he is afraid to open himself up to any meaningful feelings. Charlotte who has wrapped her emotions up so much that she is about to burst yet in Roman she finds the one person who seems to actually understand her. The tension was great and watching these two find their way through the chaos of their lives was a journey worth taking.
I do have to say my one big complaint about this story was the ending. Towards the end it started to feel a little rushed and it jumped from point a to point b really quickly. I am hoping we will be able to hear a little more about Roman and Charlotte in the sequel that is out in October.
Grade B
I hate when they do that. The book goes along swimmingly and then the end comes and BOOM, its dropped on you like a wrecking ball! LOL I hate that! Movies do it too!! To me, there is nothing worse than a bad ending, movie or book. By then, I have invested already. Invested time, emotion, energy, thought and probably money. Only to be dropped like a hot potato! Grrrr!
Sounds like a nice story though, I have a stack of unread books by this author already …
Is it comparable to Lisa Kleypas, or Amanda Quick with their stories about London underground crime bosses?
I would say it is comparable to either of these authors although I like Lisa Kleypas a bit better. It is definitely worth giving a try though.
