Series: Hornet Book #5
Stand Alone Title: yes
Author: Tonya Burrows
Genre: Romance, Romantic Suspense
Blurb: Jean-Luc Cavalier has only ever cared about three things: sex, booze, and the dangerous missions he undertakes with HORNET. Laissez les bons temps rouler is more than a Mardi Gras motto—it’s the way he lives his life. But all that changes the night he rescues Dr. Claire Oliver from deadly mercenaries.
Now he can’t get the gorgeous blond virologist out of his head.
Claire is running for her life. Someone wants her antiviral research and they’re willing to kill anyone and everyone to get it. She has no one to turn to except a womanizing Cajun with a silver tongue and devastating smile.
But when an ultra-deadly virus decimates the Niger Delta, saving Claire and her research becomes the least of HORNET’s concerns. The virus has all the markings of a bioweapon and Nigeria is only the testing grounds…
Favorite quote(s): “I’m only telling you truth. Of all the regrets I have, coming here, finding you, is not one of them.”
“Pretty sure I’m a superhero now. Like Deadpool.”
“You’re a Chia Pet,” Marcus said, his eyes still closed. “The gift nobody asks for, but always gets.”
Thoughts: I love Tonya Burrows, but I have to admit this is the first book I’ve read from the Hornet series. It’s also only the second book I’ve read involving a biological warfare element to it (the first was Viable Threat by Julie Rowe). I have to admit the idea is an intriguing one for romantic suspense novels and gives us a little something new and different – and these two ladies pack the punch to pull it off. I thoroughly enjoyed both. Ms, Burrows stands out, in that it the main character actually gets infected. Claire, the amazing doctor, develops a potential cure. The interactions between these characters is wonderful, and they actually mention the movie Outbreak in there…LOL If you are looking for something a little different, look no further! Totally engaging read!
