Review: Chasing Cassandra by Lisa Kleypas

Title: Chasing Cassandra
Series: Ravenels bk #6
Author: Lisa Kleypas
Genre: Historical Romance

Everything has a price…

Railway magnate Tom Severin is wealthy and powerful enough to satisfy any desire as soon as it arises. Anything—or anyone—is his for the asking. It should be simple to find the perfect wife—and from his first glimpse of Lady Cassandra Ravenel, he’s determined to have her. But the beautiful and quick-witted Cassandra is equally determined to marry for love—the one thing he can’t give.

Everything except her…

Severin is the most compelling and attractive man Cassandra has ever met, even if his heart is frozen. But she has no interest in living in the fast-paced world of a ruthless man who always plays to win.

When a newfound enemy nearly destroys Cassandra’s reputation, Severin seizes the opportunity he’s been waiting for. As always, he gets what he wants—or does he? There’s one lesson Tom Severin has yet to learn from his new bride:

Never underestimate a Ravenel.

The chase for Cassandra’s hand may be over. But the chase for her heart has only just begun.

Thoughts: I was super excited for this book as I love Kleypas writing, until I started seeing a bunch of things on social media about the book and how it wasn’t good. I’ve never been a bandwagon reader, I tend to wait to read a book everyone is raving about, sometimes I like the book and other times I don’t.

The talk was so massive I decided that I WASN’T going to read then. I wanted to read it when no one was talking about and form my own thoughts. I just finished reading it. It took me 4 hours in one sitting to read this book.

AND I LOVED IT!!

Let me tell you why.

Tom Severin.

He is one of the best not perfect historical heroes I’ve read. What makes him so great?

1. He isn’t a nobleman
2. He has issues and he knows this
3. He has a very good reason for why he only allows himself to feel 5 emotions and once you know why you will love him too.
4. Bazzle
5. He decides to learn about romantic love by reading books. Austin, Verne, Gaskell (one of my personal favorites and he likes her too), The Bronte sisters.
6. He will burn the world to the ground for Cassandra and that’s BEFORE he admits his feelings for her.
7. Did I mention he learns about romantic love from reading?

Don’t get me wrong Cassandra was great as well, but for me this was more about Tom’s journey. And I yes I get that the reason that a lot of readers reviewers didn’t like it was because there was so much time in the book with them being apart, but that was okay because it’s what Tom needed to truly understand what was happening to him. I actually enjoyed those parts because it allowed us to see who Tom really was.

So here it is…if you like your romance heroes a little different, and they know it and own it, and will literally burn the world down for a woman he isn’t seeing, then you need to read this.
