Review: Darkest Nigh by Megan Erickson

Title: Darkest Night
Series: Wild and Dangerous bk 2
Author: Megan Erickson
Genre: Romantic Suspense

Bodyguard Jock Bosh has one job: keep Fiona Madden safe. Safe from the men who’ve been hunting her. Safe from the bastard responsible for ruining her life. And with the attraction sizzling white-hot between them, that means keeping Fiona safe from him too.

Fiona has spent the past decade on the run. Her survival is the single greatest weapon she’s had against the men out to destroy her. Until Jock. Now, with him by her side, she finally has a chance to bring them down. But when her enemies make their next move and Jock puts himself in the line of fire, Fiona realizes that there’s more at stake than just her life-she’s also risking her heart.

Thoughts: Erickson is a hit and miss author for me. Some of her books and series I love and others I don’t. That being said, I have to admit that the first book in this series was a DNF for me. I just couldn’t get into it. I did however read the last 2 chapters (its a thing I do don’t judge) so I had a little background for this book.

I have to admit that I kinda dug Jock. He was a fairly uncomplicated guy. He had his reasons for the way he lived, and you know those reasons pretty early on. Fiona took me longer to warm up to, but I understood why. When both Jock and Fiona let their walls down was one of my favorite parts, especially how it happens.

Not going to lie, Fiona’s backstory isn’t a pretty one and it’s one that other authors have tried to tackle and not been very good at. Erickson hits just the right note for me on this, and how Jock handles it as well.

I’m a really picky romantic suspense reader, so I was more than a little trepidatious about how Erickson was going to pull this book off, but I’m happy to say that she kept me engaged and reading the book cover to cover. I may even go back and tried and read the 1st book in the series again.

If you like unusual body guards and women who discover they’re stronger than they thought you will like this book.
