Title: Stars of Fortune
Series: The Guardians Trilogy bk 1
Author: Nora Roberts
Genre: Paranormal
To celebrate the rise of their new queen, three goddesses of the moon created three stars, one of fire, one of ice, one of water. But then they fell from the sky, putting the fate of all worlds in danger. And now three women and three men join forces to pick up the pieces…
Sasha Riggs is a reclusive artist, haunted by dreams and nightmares that she turns into extraordinary paintings. Her visions lead her to the Greek island of Corfu, where five others have been lured to seek the fire star. Sasha recognizes them, because she has drawn them: a magician, an archaeologist, a wanderer, a fighter, a loner. All on a quest. All with secrets.
Sasha is the one who holds them together—the seer. And in the magician, Bran Killian, she sees a man of immense power and compassion. As Sasha struggles with her rare ability, Bran is there to support her, challenge her, and believe in her.
But Sasha and Bran are just two of the six. And they all must all work together as a team to find the fire star in a cradle of land beneath the sea. Over their every attempt at trust, unity, and love, a dark threat looms. And it seeks to corrupt everything that stands in its way of possessing the stars
Thoughts: There’s a reason why Nora Roberts is considered the queen of romance. Because she knows how to craft a well told story and make you wish you were in one of her books. Having read almost all of Nora’s books (yes I’ve read almost all of her 200+ books and own all but maybe 10 of them), I don’t think there are many who can match her caliber.
I’ve had Stars of Fortune on my shelf for a couple of months now and finally sat down to read it. I can tell you I’m kicking myself because I didn’t read it sooner. I also have a huge desire to go back and reread some of my favorite paranormals by her.
As with any first book in a series there is a lot of world building and coming together of people. The thing I loved about this was that we didn’t find out what everyone was at the same time. It was doled out as needed to push the story and plot along. With the last reveal coming almost at the end of the book.
Sasha is one of those heroines who is so far out of her comfort zone she should be curled into a ball instead she puts on her big girl panties and proceeds to kick ass. Or her version of it.
Bran, has got to be one of my favorite of Nora’s heroes. He’s 100% confident in who he is and what he needs to do. The only thing he wasn’t prepared for was Sasha and how she makes him feel.
There are going to be some who say she’s already done something like this before…and I have to admit for about a chapter I was one of them. But after that I couldn’t put the book down. I was sucked into the journey and a part of the world that Nora hasn’t written about before. The legend, the characters, the journey/quest, had me staying up late into the night and reading because I had to know.
I can’t wait for the next book in this series to see who’s up next and, what secrets will be revealed and how they all react to them. In the meantime I think I’ll go re-read some of my favorite of her trilogies to tied me over.
