Title: Demons Prefer Blondes

Series: Demons Unleashed bk 1

Author: Sidney Ayers

Genre: Paranmormal

A BAD DAY FOR A DEMON

Rafe Deleon is a senior demon and he resents like hell his assignment to Earth to retrieve the Chest of the Damned before it falls into the wrong hands. But then he meets beautiful, intriguing succubus Lucy Gregory and she’s just unleashed a whole load of trouble…

REALLY SUCKS FOR A SUCCUBUS

Lucy’s chic suburban beauty salon has suddenly become the Underworld’s center of mass chaos and destruction. The only good thing in a day going rapidly down the tubes is the arrival of a gorgeous demon who’s adamant that he can help her…

But Lucy has quite a few deeply unpleasant–not to mention deadly and hateful–surprises ahead of her, and surely there’s never been a worse time to try out a new boyfriend…

I am always a little leery of new authors because you never know what you are going to get. There are no reviews and fans of the author yet so you are essentially going in blind. A lot like it was when I began reading romance. So I picked this up and starting reading.

It started off fine, and I was really liking Rafe and Lucy and how she managed to get under Rafe’s skin. Then about halfway through the book it just sorta pettered out for me. I don’t know why exactly it just did. It was like after the big reveal the rest was just filler.

Don’t get me wrong Rafe is one of the sexiest heroes I have ever read. He is an Alpha male to the extreme and he doesn’t care. He has a job to do and he is going to do it whether Lucy wants him to or not. He just can’t get past how Lucy effects him and is distracting him from said job.

Lucy is perfectly fine with the way her life is. She doesn’t need some Neandrathal man telling what to do and when. So what if he is sex on a stick, and manages to get her motor going with just a look.

There is a lot in the first half of this book that is great, and some reveals that may be surprising to some but didn’t exactly surprise me. There is a great cast of secondary characters that I felt kinda got the shaft, and left us hanging a bit on the explanation of them. I am hoping that this issues will be resolved in the next book in the series.

Because there will be a second book I am going to give this book a higher grade than if it was a single title because of the issues that I had with the book. All of that being said my feelings in no way should effect someone else reading this book, because my feelings about the book are greatly influenced by my mood at the time of reading, and I have to admit I was in a mood when I read this book.

Linda Wisdom

Hellion Guard Margit “Maggie” O’Malley, backed by a team of assorted supernatural creatures, must protect a troublesome teen girl from the forces that want to sacrifice her to a dark Mayan god. Half-human fire demon Declan owns Damnation Alley, a club catering to nonhumans and containing a portal to the demon world. The two are drawn together by dreams and visions, allowing them to express their mutual interest even as they distrust each other in the real world. Romance and sex are firmly grounded with issues of family relations and friendship, giving this supernatural romp broad appeal.

When I got this book I was sick and not feeling well. As my family knows by now when Mom is sick she will grab a stack of books and burrow into the couch which is what I did. The book on top was this book, and I have to say that I was so into the book that I forgot all about being sick and miserable and was completely caught up with Maggie and Declan’s story.

Declan is really what did it for me on this book. There is so much more to him that just being a fire demon. No I am not going to tell you what that more is because I think it is part of the discovery of this book. But I will put it out there that those that he loves he will do absolutely anything to protect. When Maggie comes into his life it is not at a very good time for him, both professionally and personally. But there is just something about here that won’t let him walk away from her and his attraction to her.

Maggie is an excellent guard. She has found her niche in the world and is perfectly content with it. So when she meets Declan and the sparks fly she isn’t exactly happy about it, nor is she unhappy about it. As she comes to know him, she discovers that there is more going on that what she thinks, and she comes to depend on him.

Throw in a moody teen-ager with a questionable boy friend, a group of people bent on taking over the world by using dark magic. One really hot demon, did I fail to mention that Declan is SMOKIN HOT, and not because he is a fire demon. A witch that has a very clear set of rules about how things should be done. A quirky cast of secondary characters that make you shake your head and laugh because of how they interact. Add all of this together and you get one really good book.

When I was done with the book I made Mike go out and by the other books in the series, sadly he only came home with books 3 and 4, as he couldn’t find books 1 and 2. I read all of them that day, that is how much I enjoyed them.

Linda Wisdom

In this sexy, funny paranormal romance by bestselling author Linda Wisdom, it’s all beautiful witch Blair Fitzpatrick can do to keep a lid on her talent for revenge spells, but things are about to get a lot more complicated…

Blair loves running her vintage shop and hanging out with witchy friends Stasi and Jazz. She’s forever had a crush on hunky carpenter Jake Harrison, whose Were nature (he’s a Border collie) makes him loyal, lovable, and fierce when need be. Just as sparks are beginning to fly, Blair is served with a big surprise when Jake’s mother shows up along with his pack leader, who threatens to make Jake heel! When the alpha does the unthinkable, Blair is pushed over the edge. No one messes with her boyfriend-to-be, even if he does shed on the furniture!

Okay I admit it I LOVE these characters. There is just something about a guy that goes after the girl by always being in his Were form (he is a border collie that pretends to a be a stray) for months, and managing to sleep in her bed all without her knowing what he is.

Blair has been after Jake for months, he knows that she is a witch and it doesn’t bother him at all. She is finally getting somewhere with him, and is super excited. She is even willing to forgive him for not telling her that he was the dog that was shedding all over her bed.

Add in the mayors wife Agnes that is always planning some type of festival and making sure that Blair and Stasi are involved, the elves that Agnes manages to find to come work the winter festival (I had to read the scene where they showed up 3 times it was so funny, at least to my drug induced state).

Don’t forget Jakes Bitch of a mother, and his little brother that suddenly show up after years of no contact, and the agenda that they have regarding Jake.

All of this makes for a book that I ate up. I couldn’t put it down and read it in one sitting. It is a great light, fun, paranormal read that is going in the to  keep pile. I even got Mike to go find me the other books in the series.

Goddess of the Sea *guest review*

We would like welcome our sister in law Angela to our website today. She has been telling us all about these books for a while and so the other I day I told her to give a review of it and I will post it. So here it is.

Goddess of the Sea

Goddess Summoning Series bk 1

P.C. Cast

Home alone on the night of her twenty-fifth birthday, U.S. Air Force sergeant Christine Canady yearned for something to cure her loneliness. After drinking too much champagne, she recited a divine invocation to revive her humdrum life. But how was she to know the spell would actually work?

When her plane crashes into the ocean, CC’s life changes forever. She awakens, bewildered, to find herself in a legendary time and place ruled by magic – and in the body of the mythical mermaid Undine. But danger lurks in the water, ready to swallow CC whole. Taking pity on her, the goddess Gaea turns CC into a damsel so that she might seek shelter on land. When a dashing knight comes to CC’s rescue, instead of falling for this dream come true, she aches for the sea and the darkly sexy merman who’s stolen her heart…

Just imagine that you are a regular girl.  A lonely, regular girl. Maybe you’ve just moved to town. Maybe you have a phobia, of flying and you will have to get on a plane and fly from Tinkler Air Force Base in Oklahoma to Saudi Arabia in a few days.  And maybe it’s your 25th birthday and your parents almost forgot to call and did forget to send your present on time.  And maybe you bought yourself a bottle, ok two, of champagne to celebrate. And maybe you wish you were a little more exciting to the opposite sex and that life had a bit more magic.  This is how life is for CC who has been on active duty service for the US Air Force since graduating high school, until she makes some magic of her own and invokes Gaea, the Great Mother.  After some traumatic events, CC is suddenly transported through time and space to trade bodies with Princess Undine, mermaid and Princess of all the Seas.

Dylan is a quiet merman that wants to protect the girl he knows is not his former playmate the Princess Undine.  He is instantly drawn to her and feels ripped in half when she is not near, but he continually puts his pain aside to help CC understand what has happened and what to do next.  He is the most romantic and sexy hero with a tail to grace a page.

Who doesn’t want a little magic in their lives?  In the Goddess Summoning series P. C Cast delivers magic and more!  I am head over heals in love with these books and Goddess of the Sea was a sensual shiver inducing beginning. I am currently reading the fifth book in this series and each one makes me want to read the next.  CC is a lonely girl and Dylan is a lonely boy, throw in some magic and you have love.  This is not your typical boy meets girl, girl hates boy, boy romances girl and everything is all good romance novel.  There is danger and spells, gods and goddesses and a knight that has been misled.  Not to mention some very hot sex!  Read this book, and the next, and the next!

Carolyn Jewel

Carolyn Jewel is a master storyteller. The world that she has created is in this reviewers humble opinion one of the best in the paranormal and romance genre. The conflict between the fiends and the mages is a perfect combination. The hero and heroine are a perfect complement to each other.

One of the best things about Carolyn’s characters is that they are not perfect people. They have issues, and they impact everything that they do, and how they behave to each other and those around them.

Revenge. It’s all Grayson Spencer wants. Christophe dit Menart, a human with dark magical powers, destroyed the life she loved. She wants the pleasure of killing him, no matter the cost to her. If not for Durian, a dangerously sexy demon fiend charged with keeping Christophe alive, she would have succeeded, too. Now, she’s certain all hope is gone. But he has a plan and an offer she can’t resist…

Durian has spent his life as a trained and sanctioned assassin. His duty: to enforce the laws against demons harming humans. He’s always prided himself on staying out of the fray, carrying out his orders and honoring his fealty to his warlord, but never getting attached. Never until Grayson, a spunky and determined woman clearly gifted with magic herself. He convinces her to swear fealty to him so he can protect her and teach her to use her magic to taste the revenge she so desperately wants.

They’re soon bound together in a forbidden desire–a dangerous passion that calls into question Durian’s oath of loyalty to his warlord. When he refuses to return her to Christophe, his disobedience threatens to inflame the tumultuous war between demons and the magekind. Can they–and their love–survive?

Durian is a fiend that was a slave to a mage, until he was freed by Alexandrina and Xia. He is a warlord that owes his fealty to Nikodemus, and the peace that he is working on between the mages and the fiends.

Gray wants only to kill the mage that took away her life, and killed her sister. She is also dealing with all the new magic flowing thru her.

What neither of the expected was each other and the feelings that they have for each other.

One of the things that I like best about Carolyn’s books this one included is that for most of the book the hero and heroine are completely alone. It is all them, dealing with what each other is and coming to terms with the feelings that they have for each other. There are other characters in the book, because a book with just a hero and heroine would be rather boring, but the way that she combines the two makes you want to keep coming back for more.

If you like a great paranormal story with a great romance and excellent characters than I recommend picking up this series. I do have to say that this is one series that does need to be read in order or you will feel lost about what is going on with the mages and fiends.

The Chosen Ones bk 4

Christina Dodd

This is one of the best paranormal series being written, good vs evil, free will, great characters, it has it all. Christina has done an amazing job of creating this world and it makes us want to come back for more.

Samuel Faa is a Gypsy lawyer with the power to control minds. Isabelle Mason is wealthy, privileged, and refined, and has the gift for healing. Two of the Chosen Ones, they share a past filled with love and betrayal, and a future denied by fate-until the day they’re trapped underground. No way out. No way to deny the passion that still burns beneath the surface. And when danger threatens, Isabelle has only one choice: to place her trust in the power of the one man she could never forgive…or forget.

I am do have to say that I am really glad that Sam and Isabelle were the main charcters in this book, because ever since the first book we have wanted to know what the heck is going on between these two. This book explains it all.

Samuel is a guy that has always wanted more than he has, and has worked hard for what he has. The one thing that he has always wanted was Isabelle. He knows that this will be his last chance to win her back, and so he pulls out all the stops to win her back.

Isabelle has always loved Samuel (no I am not going to tell you how long as that is a very important part of the story that you need to read for yourself), however she isn’t sure if she wants to give him one more shot at her heart as the previous times have ended badly.

Watching these two come together and overcome a past where there have been hurts and betrayls on both sides makes for one really great romance. I couldn’t put the book down and found myself being late to several things because I wanted to stay and read it.

There was a side story in this book with Alexander Wilder that I have a feeling is going to be crucial to this series.

If you are looking for a great paranormal romance that you can’t go wrong with this series. I think that this book is probably one of the best in the series.

Carolyn Jewel

I was handed this book at RomCon and told that I had to read it. It took me a while to get to it, but I finally got the tbr pile down to this book and I am now wishing that it had been higher in my pile.

From the moment I started reading this book I couldn’t put it down. The world and characters that Ms. Jewel has created with this series is one of best paranormal worlds that I have ever read. She has created a world that exists within the normal world, and blended them very well. This book has it all, sexual chemistry, action, snarky comments and bad ass male characters.

Torn Between. . .

Alexandrine Marit is a witch in mortal danager. An evil mage craves the powerful, mysterious talisman that supplies her magic, and the only person who can keep her alive is a dark and dangerous fiend called Xia. With his fierce animosity toward witches, he’s hardly the ideal bodyguard. Yet as days turn into nights, she can’t deny the white-hot passion between them.

Desire and Temptation . . .

Xia hates witches. They enslave and mercilessly kill his kind. But he’s been ordered to protect Alexandrine, who, to his surprise, has a spirit he admires and a body he longs to possess. With the mage and his henchmen closing in, Alexandrine and her protector must trust the passion that can unite them . . . or risk losing everything to the enemies who can destroy them both.

When we first meet Alexandrine she is watching the brother that she has thought was dead for 10 years pace in her living room. What she never expected was that with the return of her brother her life would change dramatically.

Xia is one bad a** mother. If you don’t believe me just ask him. He has a hard on for all things witch and not in a good. He can’t figure out why he likes Alexandrine so much. It sure isn’t because she is a witch.

The action of this book takes place over a short time period but I loved it. It was intense and snarky and just all around great. The chemistry between these two was awesome. The antagonism between them was great. Okay the whole book was just plan great. I am now on the hunt to find the first book in this series and also to wait till the next book comes out.

Grade A.

Now comes the fun part. I have an extra copy of this book and one lucky commenter will win this book. All you have to do is a leave a comment telling us what you like most about paranormal romances.

Love at Stake Series

Kerrelyn Sparks

This has to be one of my favorite Vampire series on the market. The characters are ones that you could imagine living next door to you, in fact I think that was the title to one of the books in this series.

Carlos Panterra is looking for a mate, a woman who will love and care for the young orphans he’s recently taken under his wing (or paw, as the case may be). When the shape shifter spies the beautiful Caitlyn, it’s like sunshine amidst the darkness. At last, he’s found the perfect woman, except . . .

Caitlyn Whelan is mortal. Worse, her father is the head of a CIA agency bent on hunting the undead. Still, Caitlyn knows that Carlos is the man for her, shape shifter or not. So she jumps at the chance when her sister offers her a job to work with him, determined to show Carlos their attraction is more than just animal magnetism. But danger lurks in the night, and their unleashed, untamed passion might just get them both killed . . .

Carlos now there is a character that we have all wanted to know more about, and yet he has always been so secretive well all that ends here in this book. Caitlyn is Shanna’s younger sister and a bit over protective but not as much as their father was when he went so far as to separate them for most of their lives.

This may become my favorite book in the series, I had to re-read the book when I realized that I had forgotten to save my original review and it had been a couple of weeks since I had read it.

Carlos will only mate with another panther because he feels like he has the weight of his race on his shoulders (which we find out why), no matter what his feelings are for Caitlyn. Caitlyn however takes one look at Carlos and knows that he is it for her. As these two emabrk on a mission that could change both their lives we get to travel to a fascinating country in Southest Asia and meet more great characters.

If you didn’t know that Carlos was a panther and all his friends were vampires well except for a bear and a couple of wolves you would think that this was just a contemporary romance book as that is how it reads, which I think is the reason that I love this series so much.

Shadow Fall

Shadow Fall

Shadow Series book 2

by Erin Kellison

Sacrifice

Custo Santovari accepted pain, blood, even death, to save his best friend. But a man with all his sins just isn’t cut out to be an angel.

Mystery

One moment he’s fleeing Heaven; the next, he’s waking up stark naked in Manhattan. In the middle of a war. Called there by a woman who’s desperately afraid of the dark.

Shadow

It gathers around Annabella as she performs, filled with fantastic images of another world, bringing both a golden hero and a nightmare lover.

Wolf

He pursues her relentlessly, twisting her desires even as she gives herself to the man she loves. Because each of us has a wild side, and Annabella is about to unleash the beast.

If you read Shadow Bound than you know what happened to Custo, if you didn’t than you must go out and read it to understand the type of person he is; loyal, selfless, concerned, protective, to just name a few.  When I finished Shadow Bound I could not wait to get my hands on Shadow Fall.  Than I read the first chapter and everything I thought about Custo just went right out the window, I am still floored by what he did.

We are introduced to Annabella who has the ability, through dance, to open the door to the Shadow world, she does not realize it of course, and one of the times it is open is when Custo and Wolf are able to come through.  Wolf is on the prowl and determined to possess Annabella, he knows that he needs her to get back to his world but his plan is to keep Annabella there with him. Custo is going to protect Annabella at all costs and will use whatever or whoever is needed to do so.

The battle with the wraiths is still going on so we get to see Adam & Talia again in this book and Shadowman also plays a big role.

Needless to say I love these books and can’t wait for Erin’s next one.

Nalini Singh

There are some authors that do not know how to write a bad  book. They have this talent to consistently put out amazing books that keep you engrossed from the very beginning of the story. Nalini is that kind of author. I have been reading her ever since Caressed by Ice came out, and have devoured every single one of her books and passed them along to others (always with the understanding that I would be getting my books back). Some how I never managed to pick up this book, that is until July when I finally got a copy.

The book than was put away in the Nalini section of my bookcase and not in the tbr pile where it was suppose to go. The other day while I was looking for a different book I saw this one and realized that I hadn’t read it, so I pulled it and put it on the top of my tbr pile.

I loved this book, it kept me engaged and clueless to everything around my from the time I started it till I closed the book (as I was on a road trip with in-laws they thought it was funny to kept trying to interrupt   my reading)

Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she’s the best—but she doesn’t know if she’s good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful Archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, only one thing is clear—failure is not an option…even if the task is impossible.

Because this time, it’s not a wayward vamp she has to track. It’s an archangel gone bad.

The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other…and pull her to the razor’s edge of passion. Even if the hunt doesn’t destroy her, succumbing to Raphael’s seductive touch just may. For when archangels play, mortals break…

I loved everything about Elena and Raphael, both together and individually. Elena doesn’t believe in holding her punches and she doesn’t trust easily, and she has created her own family because her family wants nothing to do with her. Raphael on the other hand is an archangel one of the most powerful archangels in existence. So when these two clash it makes for very good reading.

This book is very different from her PSY/Changling series but it is just as good. If you are looking for something different than you don’t need to look any further than this book.
