In Death Series bk
J.d. Robb
Detective Eve Dallas and her partner, Peabody, are following up on a senseless crime-an elderly grocery owner killed by three stoned punks for nothing more than kicks and snacks. This is Peabody’s first case as primary detective-good thing she learned from the master.
But Peabody soon stumbles upon a trickier situation. After a hard workout, she’s all alone in the locker room when the gym door clatters open; and-while hiding inside a shower stall trying not to make a sound-she overhears two fellow officers, Garnet and Oberman, arguing. It doesn’t take long to realize they’re both crooked-guilty not just of corruption but of murder. Now Peabody, Eve, and Eve’s husband, Roarke, are trying to get the hard evidence they need to bring the dirty cops down-knowing all the while that the two are willing to kill to keep their secret.
In a series that has almost forty books you are bound to have books that you absolutely love and books that you are bleh. This book falls into the absolutely loved category.
This is one of the books were we know almost from the beginning who the murderers are, it is just a matter of putting together the evidence. One of the things I liked about this book was all the dialogue. As Eve and company try to gather the evidence needed to take down a bunch of dirty cops, and make sure that they don’t figure out how Eve knew about their side business.
One of the things I like about this series is that we get to see the growth of Eve and members of her inner circle. In Treachery she begins to give Peabody her wings and has her on primary, and lets her lead on some of the info gathering to take down the dirty cops.
Over all another great addition to this series.
