Review:
Darcy never thought being a nanny would lead to her running for her life. She’s running for her life after witnessing the apparent murder of her employer, Johnny Fontana, who happens to work for the mob. The hit has been put out by Frank DeLuca, the head of the infamous mafia family that he works for.
Darcy Maddox realizes that her safety may lie in the hands of her father, a retired Chief of Police in Oregon. Unfortunately as she makes her way home she is kidnapped by a man who in all appearances was someone she felt she could trust but you know the saying “looks can be deceiving”.
Enter Walker, a former marine, who the U.S. Marshall’s office has hired to find Darcy and keep her safe. Walker, who has been fighting demons from his past for awhile, felt this was just a mundane babysitting job in which he sees Darcy as a “helpless woman” but his opinion soon changes when she out smarts him when he intercepts her.
Darcy doesn’t know who to trust any more much less who will protect her and in all appearances Walker appears to be anything but a rescuer that’s until he saves her from a series of haphazard events. As he proves to be an ally, she allows him to take her to a safe house where they start to realize that there is something building between them.
If you enjoy reading romantic suspense that is action-packed, keeps you on your toes and you are looking for a happy ever after then this is a book for you. This is the first book I’ve read by Dixie Lee Brown but it won’t be my last.
