Thoughts: Toni Aleo is one of my absolute favorite authors, and I love her Assassins series dearly – but this is completely different from what I am used to from her. I took a chance on it anyway simply because Toni wrote it, but for me it just wasn’t a hit. My first obvious issue jumping into it (which I already knew) was that I was coming into it without having read the first book – though I was hoping this wouldn’t be an issue. Wrong. From the first chapter I was completely lost, and it sure did not get any better – I was hoping that by plodding along that the gaps would slowly be filled in, but I quickly lost patience with it. Second, it is new adult and I can already tell it definitely has that new adult vibe of immature characters that just seems to hit the wrong buttons for me.
Overall, just the whole tone of it was not my cup of tea
If you are planning to read it, however, definitely not a stand alone title.
