Long ago, Rachel Carpenter was a glamorous soap star. She gave it all up to move to Napa Valley with her daughters to open up a bookstore near her family vineyard. Her life is safe and dependable, until she encounters Kane Lafferty at a wilderness camp in the rugged High Sierra. A burned-out police detective struggling with his own demons, Kane is instantly attracted to Rachel. And like Rachel, he isn’t sure if he’s ready to open up his heart. But everything is about to change…

Someone is watching from the darkness. A fanatic obsessed with Rachel for years has decided to claim what he believes is his. It will be up to Kane to not only protect his new love and her family, but to uncover the identity of the stalker before it’s too late for all of them…

ThoughtsEvery Move She Makes manages to strike a nice balance between romance and suspense. The blurb was good if a little typical of these types of romances, but enough hat I was willing to take a chance on it, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this story. While it is a bit of a slow paced/slow building story – which is odd if you are looking for a suspense story that is more action based – I found that it added more to the romance aspect to the story, particularly when it came to the fact that Rachel was a single parent dealing with three daughters (not all of which were on board with mom having a new romance in her life). It also allowed for more of a connection with the characters. Although, Rachel’s daughter Lark hits more into troubled teen territory – at times it seems as if she resents her mother’s soap star background and popularity, others it seems more because of the divorce – but I really felt for Lark, yet at the same time found her driving me crazy! The author definitely pegged the angst behind a teenager very well. Though Lark takes it to the extreme with some of her crazy stunts and behaviors! Again, just very well written characters, very relatable and engaging.

The suspense was well done and well paced, if a little predictable for the most part. The ending was the best part for me. Not to give anything away, but I will say that it was not so much in the psychopath or the actions of that character, but in the way that it was handled by the other character(s) that is what really added to my enjoyment of the ending.

All in all, this is a great book though it may not be for everyone. If you are looking for more intense passion, some serious action and drama, fast paced and/or shocking storylines this book just might not be what your looking for. On the other hand, if you are looking for enjoyable characters and slower paced storylines with deeper connections this one is a great one to pick up!
