Scoring Off The Field by Naima Simone

Title: Scoring Off The Field

Series: WAGS Book #2

Stand Alone Title: yes
Author:  Naima Simone

Genre:  Romance

Blurb: Tennyson Clark is getting a life. First step: quitting her job as assistant to Dominic Anderson, star quarterback for the Washington Warriors, her best friend…and the man she’s been secretly in love with for years. But since the gorgeous, if overprotective playboy has only ever seen her as his BFF, she’s finally ready to relinquish her tattered fantasy and move on. Enter steps two and three: new job and new man.

Football is Dominic’s life, and with his contract soon up for renewal, all his focus needs to be on the game. But Tennyson—dependable, logical Tennyson—is making that next to impossible with her mysterious new job and her sudden interest in online dating. He doesn’t do relationships. But the thought of another man touching her sexier-than-hell curves has him suddenly wanting more from his best friend.

Indulging in hot, dirty, what’s-my-name sex with no strings and lots of benefits is simple, uncomplicated…until it’s not.

Favorite quote(s): “It’s a noun.  Definition.  When someone is so much of an a@$hole, they need another syllable.”

“In my day, we at least tried to add a little mystery about whether or not we’d eventually give in.  Now they’re just handing it away like there’s a fire sale on kitty cat.”

Thoughts: My absolute favorite troupe is a good friends-to-lovers romance, quickly followed by having one of the characters pining away from a major crush – with this book I get the added bonus of both!  The story was enjoyable, but also distinct.  For one thing, Tennyson hasn’t totally been pining away in secret…she actually did try to tell Dominic about her feelings – and got turned down for her efforts with the ‘let’s just be friends’ speech.  Tenny is also…well, spunky – she makes a strong effort to do what she needs to for her own emotional well-being, and she doesn’t just sit back and take Dominic’s crap.  This girl stands up for herself.  She’s also interesting…I loved her tendency to use off-the-wall words.  She was just a fun character and she really made this book.  Dominic was a good character, but he could be a bit of a clueless ass sometimes.

I’ve read and reviewed the previous book in the series, and I have a new respect for this author.  She’s one of the stand-out authors for Entangled and I’ve enjoyed every book I’ve read from her.  You come across familiar characters in Scoring Off The Field, but it also stays a stand alone title without making you feel lost.

Thoroughly enjoyable!
