Swallow Me Whole by Gemma James

Title: Swallow Me Whole

Series: n/a

Stand Alone Title: yes
Author: Gemma James

Genre:  Romance, Contemporary, Erotica

Blurb: Sadie Sawyer wants to learn how to blow a guy.

She’s my sister’s best friend.
The girl I’ve known since grade school.
The girl I’ve always considered off-limits.

She’s the girl that crawled under a table in a bar one night and changed everything between us. Now the brain in my pants is more than willing to step up. The rules are simple.

No kissing.
No screwing.
No falling in love.

But the more I let her use my body in the name of experimentation, the more I know being friends isn’t enough. Is it too much to want it all with her?

The taste of her lips.
The sweetness of her innocence.
The chance to earn her love.

I might have a real shot with her…if her douchebag ex and my past don’t ruin everything.

Favorite quote(s): “I’ve had dirty thoughts about you long before you decided to get a taste of me.”

“Tell me what to do,  and I’ll do it.  Just don’t tell me to stop loving you because that isn’t going to happen.”

Thoughts: While this wasn’t a bad book, it’s important to state that it is not for everyone.  In fact, this one teetered on the edge of being readable even for me.  The story by itself was good – I’m always a sucker for a good friends-to-lovers romance.  Even for erotica, this tips the scales into a more darker side of the spectrum – with a raunchy edge, it pushes boundaries.  There is also an obsession with certain sexual acts that starts to get on my nerves fairly quickly.  And I like erotica!  But what really tipped the scale was Ashton’s tendency at times to be disrespectful to Sadie…’to degrade her’, ‘to punish her’.  That doesn’t fly with me.  At all.  If it hadn’t been for some of the more redeeming qualities of the story and the authors writing talent, that would have been the point of no return for me, put it down, do not finish…I did, however, manage to ignore the bad and move on.  There is sexy without being raunchy, erotic without having to insert one sexual act after the other….and this one toes that line.

Basically, a good book that could have been better (in my opinion)….but fair warning to other readers to read with caution because it is absolutely not for everyone.
