Warrior’s Redemption

   Title: Warrior’s Redemption
Series :The Warrior Series book 1
   Author:  Melissa Mayhue
   Genre: Paranormal Romance

Will the magic of modern romance help him defeat an evil ancient power? MALCOLM MACDOWYLT sees himself a failed warrior, haunted by the death of the woman he  married to become laird of Clan MacGahan.  Neither his Viking heritage nor his claim to descend  from Norse gods can restore his confidence in his ability to protect his people.  His sister is held  captive, her life in jeopardy, and his Magically powerful half brother wants him dead.  The last  thing he needs is more responsibility, but that’s exactly what he gets when his Faerie mother-in-  law arrives seeking justice for her daughter in the form of an enticing woman from seven hundred years in the future. DANIELLE DEARMON has waited fifteen years to discover the life she is supposed to live.  She just never dreamed she’d end up in the thirteenth century with a handsome Scot bent on saving everyone but himself. With the lives of those most dear to him hanging in the balance, Malcolm sets out to battle a powerful evil Magic, only to learn that the redemption he seeks exists only in the arms of the woman he loves. It is hard to imagine but four years ago I was playing on Amazon, my favorite place to shop, and stumbled upon a cover of a book that just grabbed my attention, I did not know who it was or even what it was about but I had to get my hands on a copy and thankfully I did.  Thirty Nights with a Highland Husband sent me on a remarkable journey that I just could not get enough of and thankfully followed with seven more fabulous books in the Daughters of the Glen series.

Well Melissa you have done it again with Warriors Redemption!  Not only do you get to enjoy an extremely well written book, and of course the cover is to DIE for, but also we get introduced to new characters, to a new journey, and a story that has a few twists and turns that you might not expect.

Danielle steals your heart from the get go, she has unshakeable faith in the fairies and goes out of her way to make sure they are kept happy, she just knows that eventually they will step in and help her when the time is right.  Malcolm is one tough, extremely handsome Scottish Lord with the heart of a warrior and the patience of a saint.  The two are thrown together and quickly the sparks fly, but of course it can’t be as easy as that so there is all kinds of trials to overcome and some feelings that must be acknowledged.

You will really need to get your hands on this one to find out how it all comes together, you won’t be disappointed! I have to say it has become one of my most favorite books of the year.

Grade A+ (to the extreme)

Holiday Fun with Melissa Mayhue

Today we have Melissa Mayhue sharing one of her families favorite holiday recipes with us. I have to say after reading this recipe I may be changing my fudge recipe.
As far as favorite Christmas reads, I have to shame-facedly [not a word, but it should be] admit that I don’t have a book I re-read each Christmas.  There are so many new books I have waiting their turn in my TBR piles, I have very little time for re-reading.  Now, if we want to talk about a Christmas-themed book that made enough of an impression on me that I still love it, I do have one of those.
Christina Skye’s CHRISTMAS KNIGHT is one of my all-time favorite stories.  Of course, I don’t think Christina has written a romance that I haven’t read!
Now for my recipe:
This fudge is something my mother made every single Christmas for as long as I can remember.  She didn’t stop making it until well into her 80′s and by then my sons expected me to start!   It’s one of those foods that actually transports me to the holidays.  One taste and my brain BELIEVES it is December.  :-)
Christmas Candy
3 1/2 cups white sugar
13 ounces evaporated milk
1/4 pound butter
24 ounces Hershey bars, plain, broken into small pieces [any combination of bars to equal 24 ounces total]
12 ounces semi sweet chocolate chips
1 pound chopped pecans
16 ounces marshmallow creme
2 Tablespoons vanilla
Combine milk, sugar and butter in a large pan.  Boil at medium heat to soft ball stage.  [I recommend a candy thermometer].  Stir in Hershey bars, chocolate chips, vanilla, marshmallow creme and pecans.
Mix well and pour into large buttered pan [like a 9" x 13" cake pan].
Cool and cut into squares.  Makes approximately 5 pounds of rich, smooth, delicious fudge!
Wishing you ALL the happiest of holidays!!!

RomCon Tuesday – Melissa Mayhue

We are SUPER excited to welcome one of our favorite authors Melissa Mayhue. She is one of the funnest people that we had the privilege to get to know, and man can she bogey. I think she out danced everyone there :)

Why RomCon?

I first heard of RomCon before it had a name, back in the days when it was just a twinkle in the eyes of its creators.  Over lunch one day, one of those creators, Elaine Levine, excitedly shared the idea of how cool it would be to have a Reader focused Romance Conference in Denver.

I totally agreed.

When the ‘twinkle’ became a reality in 2010, I was one of the first to sign up to attend.  After that first conference, I was all ready to sign up for 2011!

What did I like about it?  Wow.  Where do I even begin???

There’s the mundane things like loving a conference far enough away from home that I have to stay in the hotel but close enough I can drive and take as much stuff as I want without worrying about having to shove it into on bag!

Then there’s the really important part – the opportunity to connect with the readers in a way I haven’t been able to before.   Now, don’t get me wrong… I love writers.  Heck, I’ve never met a writer who wasn’t a reader long before she began writing!  But the chance to go somewhere and sit down with people who’ve read your books and know your characters almost as well as you do?  As the commercial says, that’s priceless!  And so much fun!  The hardest part was trying to remember how much the Readers already knew and how much was in the books I’d been working on that weren’t yet in print!

I was lucky enough last year to host the Reviewer/Blogger Party and it was so much fun putting together the giveaway bags for the party.  Working with a variety of publishers and authors to gather books and fun items to give to our attendees, that last week or so before RomCon, it was like Christmas every day as a new box would arrive at my house, stuffed with ‘stuff’ for the bags!  I’m hoping the event [which I get to host again!] will be every bit as much fun this year!

The biggest thing about RomCon from my perspective was that it felt amazingly different from every other conference I’d been to.  I’ve been to smaller Romance Writers of America chapter conferences as well as the annual National RWA conference.  I’ve been to the Romantic Times Convention.  And though the first are admittedly skewed toward writers and the second is billed as a Reader event, RomCon was honestly, totally Reader focused.  No writing or publishing workshops of any kind.  It was clear from the moment I received my schedule that Authors were there as a benefit to the Readers rather than the other way around.  My entire weekend was completely booked by the organizers with back-to-back events and I came home absolutely exhausted… but it was worth every minute!  It was a wonderful opportunity to get to know people who had been simply personalities on my computer screen before RomCon, both Readers and other Authors.  I also had the opportunity to make so many new friends who I now follow online and I’m looking forward to connecting with them in person again.  I’m also looking forward to meeting a whole host of new people this year… and for an introvert like me, that’s saying a whole heck of a lot!!!

I wouldn’t trade the experience of RomCon for anything and I strongly encourage anyone out there who loves Romance books and visiting about them with others who feel the same way to make every effort to join us in Denver for RomCon this year.   If you’ve never been to a Reader Conference or you consider yourself a tad on the shy side, you might be feeling a little unsure.  I totally understand.  I’m definitely someone who’s more comfortable sitting in the corner and watching than standing up front and leading the way.  But a few hours into RomCon and you know you’re surrounded by people who love books just as much as you do.

I know I’m already looking forward to August – and I hope to see YOU there!

***Melissa has graciously offered to send a copy of her newest book Highlander’s Curse to one lucky commenter. All you have to do is tell us if you were to come to RomCon which authors you would like meet, whether they are coming this year or not. Contest ends on Friday June 17th.

When COLIN MACALISTER is cursed by the Faerie Queen and ends up in the bed of a twenty-first century woman — who also happens to be the most beautiful creature he’s ever laid eyes on — he’s torn between anger and lust. Colin is determined to see Scotland free of English control and must return to the fourteenth century, yet he cannot forget the woman who haunts his dreams and stirs him with scorching desire.

ABIGAIL PORTER can’t believe her luck. After making a wish to find her Soulmate, she wakes up to find a gorgeous man in her bed! Thwarting danger at every turn, Abby and Colin surrender to an irresistible passion. But is the magic of true love powerful enough to save them?

Pimpin the Book *Highlander’s Curse*

One of our absolute favorite authors is Melissa Mayhue. Not only is she an amazing author but she is one of the best people we have ever met. She has a new book out this month and are excited to pimp this book out.

Healing the Highlander

Healing the Highlander
Daughters of the Glen series book 7
by Melissa Mayhue
release date: February 22nd

ANDREW MACALISTER longs for a cure to free him from the excruciating pain caused by an old wound, but when he rescues a drowning woman, he has no idea how much his life is about to change. All Drew knows is that this mysterious woman is hiding secrets—and that he’s never felt such a consuming desire before. Yet he cannot deny her request for help, even if it means bringing the detested English army to his Highland clan’s home.

LEAH NOBLE MCQUARRIE still harbors a deep hatred of the Fae who tortured her eleven years ago, forcing her to escape back in time to the thirteenth century. A descendant of the Fae, Leah denies her heritage and her magical healing abilities. But the English army is holding her beloved adoptive grandfather captive, so Leah must seek help from the Fae—and the captivating man whose touch she craves.

Then Drew discovers Leah’s secrets, and he’s torn between old loyalties and trusting a woman who has the power to give him the future he’s sought—but could destroy his clan forever…

We all have those authors that we absolutely LOVE and our world stops when their book gets in your hands.  Well mine did when I came home to find my Melissa Mayhue book had arrived, I think I even shouted out in joy.

For those of you that have not read this series it is hard to classify it as any one type of genre as it fits into so many of them wonderfully. We have the fantasy element in that this is a world of Fae and magic.   Time Travel, you never know where her books will take you but you will love the journey.  The Highlands aspect, who can resist those Scottish Lairds, past or present.  And don’t forget the ROMANCE, these people will travel through anything looking for their soulmate and you won’t be disappointed in their search.

This particular journey involves Drew & Leah who we met in previous books.  Drew was severely injured during a battle with some evil Fae and has spent a lot of his life looking for a way to heal his injury.  Leah had her own run in with these same Fae who tortured her and wanted to use her for their own purpose, her escape through time ended up bringing her to more people who had the same purpose in mind but this time they were holding her adoptive Grandparents hostage to get their way.  Her only salvation was with the MacAlister family so her journey begins to seek their help.  To say that Leah attracts trouble is not stretching any truth and Drew soon realizes this after having to save her life multiple times.  Their relationship is a rocky one with neither one of them trusting the other and both using each other to get what they need.  Drew learns that Leah is Fae with the gift of healing and will do anything to keep her with him so she can take away his constant pain, Leah needs Drew to convince his family to rescue hers.  They both fight their own feelings until it is almost too late for them but the power of Love will always win in the end.

If you have not picked up a Melissa Mayhue book you need to remedy that right away!  Thankfully we won’t have to wait long for the next installment as Highlander’s Curse comes out the end of March.

RomCon Plug: For all those following us in our RomCon Reading Challenge here is your opportunity to read another book.  Heather & I met Melissa and her daughter at RomCon last year and let me just tell you that they were the nicest people and so much fun to hang out with.  She will be attending this year also which is a great incentive to come in August.

Thanks & Recap

Just wanted to give a huge shout of thanks to all the authors who helped us out this week and to everyone who stopped by.  Heather and I are really excited about starting this venture together and I hope you all have fun along the way with us.

We will post the winners on Sunday so plan on checking in to see if you are one of the lucky ones.

Just in case you did not get a chance to see the author responses to our question we asked here they are again.  If you can figure out which author is new to this post you might win a book also.  Just post a comment and we will draw a winner from the correct answers

We asked a few of our favorite authors what their go to books or authors are right now and where do they go to relax and read.  Here are their responses.

Carly Phillips:   http://www.carlyphillips.com/ A few months ago I would have said I’m a true contemporary reader. Only. That’s still the case … without the only! I’ve recently strayed into a genre I never thought would hold any interest for me – paranormal.  It’s been a fantastic break from my normal reading and when I’ve devoured my contemporary authors and am waiting for a new release.  As for which authors, in contemporary – my fellow Plotmonkeys, Leslie Kelly aka Leslie Parrish, Julie Leto, and Janelle Denison … and also Toni Blake, Erin McCarthy’s racecar series, Victoria Dahl, Jill Shalvis, Rachel Gibson.  And now in my new paranormal phase, I’m devouring Nalini Singh, Meaghan Hatfield, Larissa Ione.  As for where? On my Kindle … wherever I can.  In bed usually since reading is a treat for when I can relax but in my car while waiting for the kids works too!

Erin Nicholas:  http://www.erinnicholas.com/ I almost always go for contemporaries first, though I have favorites in historical, erotic, and paranormal too. I have a few go-to authors who always deliver for me but the two that first come to mind are Erin McCarthy and Susan Andersen. I have a big chair by my picture window that I love to curl up in with my Kindle! :)

Susan Mallery: http://www.susanmallery.com I’ve always been a romance fan. Romance novels are my go-to books, though of course I read in other genres from time to time. Romances affirm my view of the world as a good place where men and women find a way to avoid killing each other, despite sometimes overwhelming temptation. I read everywhere, but if we’re talking a truly relaxing read, there’s nothing like curling up on the sofa with a good book.

Anna Campbell:   http://www.annacampbell.info/ A great historical sweeps me away into a world of romance like nothing else so when I’ve got spare time, I tend to read the competition (LOL!). I love to read in bed, especially when it’s raining outside!

Alexandra Hawkins:  http://www.alexandrahawkins.com/ No contest–Romance. I read all sub-genres. Where do I like to read? The sofa in my family room reclines so it’s a comfy place to read.

Sarah MacLean: http://www.macleanspace.com I love historicals, but when I’m just trying to get away from work, I love contemporaries. Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Rachel Gibson, Kristan Higgins, and when I run out of them, I’m always down for the One Click packs for Kindle from Harlequin! As for the where, anywhere my dog is curled up is always a first choice.

Stephanie Laurens: http://www.stephanielaurens.com/         I read a lot of different genre fiction. Always genre, but it could be crime/mystery, fantasy or romance. I read in bed, pretty much every single night. I have a silk-covered, silk-fiber filled comforter, European pillows to prop myself up with, and my cats always come to sit with me–one on my stomach, the other between my calves. As far as they’re concerned, that’s how it has to be

Nalini Singh:   http://www.nalinisingh.com/ I have quite eclectic reading tastes and depending on my reading mood, will read anything from thrillers to sf/fantasy, to any number of sub-genres of romance (of course!) and more. I read some non-fiction as well, partly for research purposes and partly just because the topic interests me. Some of my favorite authors are Anne McCaffrey, Mercedes Lackey. Anne Bishop, Christine Feehan, Meljean Brook, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Jayne Castle/Jayne Ann Krentz, JD Robb, Julie Garwood, Jude Deveraux, Lisa Kleypas…and seriously, I could keep going. I love reading, and I’m always trying out new authors alongside my favorites. My most recent “finds” have been Joss Ware (love the Envy Chronicles!) and Jess Granger with her futuristic romances. As for where I read – everywhere I can!

Jessa Slade:     http://jessaslade.wordpress.com/ As a writer, I consider it my sacred duty to read. I have a breakfast book, a backpack book, a bedside book, and a bathtub book. And usually a few more besides :)  I read a lot in my genre — urban fantasy romance — but like most booksluts, I’ll peel back the cover on anything. At RomCon this year (where I met the Book Reading Gals!) I had the chance to sit with Nalini Singh, C.L. Wilson and Christine Feehan. It was like my bookshelf sprang to life!

Erin Kellison:  http://www.erinkellison.com/ Chances to relax are seldom with little kids and a book on deadline, so I have to steal time to get my reading fix. I generally choose fantasy, but really enjoy a lot of genre fiction. I had surgery last week and got to read Mockingjay in one sitting. Love that feeling of sinking into a book. My favorite place to go? The beach. Combine that with a book and a lazy afternoon and I am in heaven.

Leslie Parish:     http://www.authorleslieparrish.com/ Whenever I want to read purely for enjoyment, I tend to stay away from romance because I’m so immersed in it in my job, I just want something different for down-time.So I typically pick up a horror or thriller novel (Stephen King is my favorite) or something so funny it leaves me breathless (Christopher Moore is my go-to author for this!) I most recently read The Passage by Justin Cronin, a futuristic vampire/zombie armageddon story and really loved it.

Paranormal Activity

When I first started reading romance books there was two genres, contemporary and historical. There were no ff&p books. Fast forward about 15 years and you have a couple of authors that finally publish ff&p romance, there were only a couple of authors published at that time so if you liked that genre you had to read those authors. Fast forward 10 more years and now it is a huge genre with any number of authors for you to choose from and some of the authors that we never thought would go there have even written books with a little paranormal activity.

I for one am really glad that this genre exists because this is one of my favorite genres. I am fairly picky however when it comes to my paranormal stories, if they are creating their own world than it has to be completely believable. If they are writing a paranormal with immortals that live amongst us, the reasons for the immortality have to be believable, and they have to have historical accuracy.

Melanie likes those that are different and take twist that is unexpected to make it more enjoyable. Something that hasn’t been seen before in the genre, yet still has to be somewhat believable.

We each have those ff&p authors that are auto buys for each of us.

On the top of my list are Nalini Singh, Christine Feehan, Kerrelyn Sparks, Kresley Cole, Gena Showalter, Lara Adrian, Jessa Slade and Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Melanie’s auto buys are Erin Kellison, Leslie Parish, Christina Dodd, Brenda Joyce,  Sherrilyn Kenyon and Melissa Mayhue.

Are there any paranormal books that you love and what do you enjoy about them, what about ones that you are not liking?

The lovely Jessa Slade has put together a fabulous swag bag for one lucky commenter today

A highlander of her Own

Daughters of the Glen bk 4

Melissa Mayhue

back cover:

TEXAS, PRESENT DAY. Ellie Denton’s world has spiraled out of control. A strange new birthmark, animals talking to her, and her mother’s ex-husband laying claim to the family ranch have her thinking life can’t get more complicated. But Ellie doesn’t know the birthmark’s connection to her Faerie ancestors. Complicated takes on a whole new meaning with her innocent wish to find her true love.

SCOTLAND, 1304. Caden MacAlister has more trouble than he can handle. With his brother held for ransom
and the laird missing, the last thing he needs is another problem. But the Fae have other plans.

A mysterious woman shows up in his stables, sent by Faerie Magic to find her true love. Fighting his attraction, Caden insists she’s meant for one of his brothers. With his history, he has no desire for a woman in his life—especially a woman sent by the Fae.

Only the magic of the Fae can determine whether Ellie will find a Highlander of her own…

REVIEW: This is one of my sister in law’s favorite authors, so I picked up the books. I have to say that I really liked this book.

What do you get when you mix a fiercely independent woman from the 21st century and put her back in 13th century Scotland. A recipe for laughter, and a guarantee to drive any man that she comes in contact with mad, especially one like Caden that has sworn to never marry.

Every time that these two got together you feel the sparks flying. All Ellie wants is someone to love her, but she also wants to go home and deal with her lying cheating step-father. Every time she came into contact with Caden you could feel emotions that he evoked in her. She wants him, but he wants nothing to do with her, yet he can’t stay away from her.

Caden has sworn to never marry, after his attempt to marry years ago, ended in tragedy for his family. Ellie tempts him as no one has in the past. She confuses him, and pulls him to her, no matter how he fights it. Not only does he have to contend with his feelings over Ellie, his brother and his Laird have both been taken captive.

If you haven’t yet checked this author out I recommend that you do. I know that I have enjoed wach of her books.

You can purchase the book here, here and here.

I give this book a 4 out of 5.

Thirty Nights with a HIghland Husband

Rating 4.5

Thirty Nights with a Highland Husband by Melissa Mayhue

SCOTLAND, 1272. Connor MacKiernan, a descendant of the Fae Prince, is a warrior who lives only for honor and duty. Though he’s vowed never to marry, that’s exactly what he must do to save his sister. Enter a little Faerie magic, and the search for a bride is on.

DENVER, 2007. Caitlyn Coryell is having a really bad day — she just discovered her fiancé with another woman! Imagine her surprise when she puts on some sexy lingerie and an antique pendant and Connor appears in her bedroom, begging for her help. He offers a simple yet outrageous adventure: travel to his time, marry him, and return home.
But nothing’s simple when Cate is trapped in the thirteenth century. The wedding’s delayed, someone’s trying to kill her, and in the middle of all this, she realizes she’s falling in love with a man who can only be her husband for thirty nights.

I loved this book. The connection between Connor and Cate is amazing. Melissa does a great job of weaving the story, the interaction between the generations, it flows seemlessly. I can hardly wait to read the next book in the series.
