Blurb: The perfect place for a woman on the run to disappear…Accused of a horrific murder she didn’t commit, former heiress Callie Ward has been a fugitive since she was sixteen—until she found the perfect hideout, Club Dominion. The only problem is she’s fallen for the club’s master, Mitchell Thorpe, who keeps her at arm’s length. Little does she know that his reasons for not getting involved have everything to do with his wounded heart…and his consuming desire for her. To live out her wildest fantasies…Enter Sean Kirkpatrick, a Dom who’s recently come to Dominion and taken a pointed interest in Callie. Hoping to make Thorpe jealous, she submits to Sean one shuddering sigh at a time. It isn’t long before she realizes she’s falling for him too. But the tender lover who’s seducing her body and slowly earning her trust isn’t who he claims…And to fall in love. When emotions collide and truths are exposed, Sean is willing to risk all to keep Callie from slipping through his fingers. But he’s not the only man looking to stake a claim. Now Callie is torn between Sean and Thorpe, and though she’s unsure whom she can trust, she’ll have to surrender her body and soul to both—if she wants to elude a killer…
Thoughts: I am a fan of Shayla Black, particularly her Doomsday Brethren series. I am not as familiar with her other works, but I thought I would take the opportunity to explore more of her writings. And once again, Shayla Black has proven herself. No matter she puts her hand to – be it magic and myth or erotica – she can do no wrong.
Let me say that for an erotica novel, the plot was way more in depth that I expected. More than just simply erotica, this book has intrigue, as well as government subterfuge, and more than enough drama to keep you interested. Once you became caught up in this storyline, it was really hard to put it down – even for a few moments. One of the great things about it though, is that even though it is part of a series, it stood on its own as a stand alone just fine.
Another thing I really loved about this book? The intricate relationships. The two men despise each other at first, and only wind up working together when they have to in order to find Callie – before someone else does. And even though it is sort of a love triangle that eventually develops into a ménage, they don’t just fall into it like you see in some other books. They each deal with it in their own way, yet still manage to work through various issues, circumstances, and insecurities. And the depths of emotion behind that are what really makes this story. Sean and Mitchell both are their own strong, individual personalities, who each have their own different relationships with Callie. Yet it all comes together in a beautiful and touching way.
On the downside, it could be a little too lengthy at times, and some of the ‘action’ and ‘intrigue’ parts of it just didn’t ring true or plausible. But it is make-believe after all…lol…..I just prefer when no matter how far fetched it seems, when you’re caught up in the story – it all just seems perfectly plausible! All in all, stuff that could be easily overlooked.
Theirs to Cherish definitely stands out from the typical erotica/BDSM romance, and it’s well worth a read. Thoroughly enjoyable!
