The Darkest Lie

The Darkest Lie

Lords of the Underworld bk 9
Gena Showalter

Forced to his knees in agony whenever he speaks the truth, Gideon can recognize any lie—until he captures Scarlet, a demon-possessed immortal who claims to be his long-lost wife. He doesn’t remember the beautiful female, much less wedding — or bedding — her. But he wants to . . . almost as much as he wants her. But Scarlet is keeper of Nightmares, too dangerous to roam free, and a future with her means risking everything. Especially as Gideon’s enemies draw closer . . . and the truth threatens to destroy all he’s come to love . . .

This is one of those books that could have gone very very wrong. A hero that can only say lies, and a hero that hates him because he left her in Tartarus. This book however goes very right.
Gideon is a great hero, he can only speak in lies however he can think in truth and so we get to see his thoughts as well as hear his lies. He loves his friends and will do anything for them. Scarlet spent her whole life in Tartarus, thinking that Gideon had abandoned her and is determined to get her revenge on the husband that can’t remember her.
As they work together to figure out why he can’t remember her and their life together, there are some very intense and heartbreaking scenes that make you want to reach in and slap whoever it was that did this to them. When the truth is finally revealed you don’t know if you are happy about it or sad about it.
Once again Gena has created a page turner, I couldn’t put the book down and stayed up all night reading it, because I had to find out what had happened. One of the things that she does so well in this series is set up the next book by having a secondary story take place, only in this case there were two stories, and when I finished this book I wanted to more of both those stories.

If you haven’t yet picked up this series you should as it is one the best series that I have read and can hardly wait for the next book to come.
I give this book a 4.5 out of 5

The Darkest Passion

If there is one paranormal series that is in my top 5 favorite series it is Gena Showalters Lords of the Underworld. Today the latest book The Darkest Passion came out, it is Aeron’s story and I am jonesing to head straight to Borders to get it. As I was surfing blogoshpere, something that I haven’t had much time for lately I stopped by Ms. Showalter’s blog. On it she means a little contest that she is having. If we post about The Darkest Passion we are entered into a contest to win a copy of The Darkest Lie. So here is my little blurb about the book. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this series, and I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to go straight to Borders right now to get my copy. Plus the cover looks really really yummy.

Darkest Whisper

The Darkest Whisper
Lords of the Underworld bk 4

Gena Showalter

goodreads
He is the keeper of Doubt and his entire world’s about to be rocked.

Bound by the demon of doubt, Sabin unintentionally destroys even the most confident of lovers. So the immortal warrior spends his time on the battlefield instead of the bedroom, victory his only concern…until he meets Gwendolyn the Timid. One taste of the beautiful redhead, and he craves more.

Gwen, an immortal herself, always thought she’d fall for a kind human who wouldn’t rouse her darker side. But when Sabin frees her from prison, battling their enemies for the claim to Pandora’s box turns out to be nothing compared to the battle Sabin and Gwen will wage against love…

REVIEW: I have made no bones about the fact that I love all things Greek, so of course this is one of my favorite series.

How do you love someone when they are constantly whispering doubt into your mind? Sabin has given up on having anyone love him, nor does he want anyone to love him. All he wants is the next clue to the location of Pandora’s box.

Gwen is part Harpy however you would never know it look at her. She is afraid of everything and wants a normal life with a normal boy. When the normal boy can’t save her from the forces of evil that kidnap her, she still lives in a world of denial.

I loved watching these two come together. They are so different and yet so similar that it makes for a very good read. Gwen doesn’t want to be a warrior and so she fights Sabin, however when push comes to shove she of course joins right in.

Once again all the secondary characters were amazing, Gwen’s sisters and the other Lord’s with their significant others.

If you haven’t already picked up this series then I suggest that you do because it is one amazing series.

I give this book a 4.75 out of 5

How the Heck did I miss this One

Today I had to go to Target to fill some rx’s and as I was walking back to the pharmacy I passed the new releases. So I glanced at the shelf to see what had come out today not really expecting to see anything that would interest me. I was shocked to see the newest book in one of my favorite series out. I quickly grabbed it to see if I was wrong about the series, and to my shock I wasn’t. My next question was HOW IN THE HECK HAD I MISSED THE RELEASE OF THIS BOOK? I check out all the blogs, in fact I had just been to her blog. I knew that the book was coming out soon, but I thought September. NO. It is in a week when I have no money to buy books. What book is it you ask, it is…..So now I have to wait until I have money to get this book, hopefully soon. I think that I am going to have to re-read the other books before I read this one. Just so that I can appreciate it more.

These are the other books in this series.

Atlantis Series by Gena Showalter

Heart of the Dragon
Atlantis bk 1

click here to read the previous review of this book…

Jewel of Atlantis
Atlantis bk 2

All Atlantis seeks the Jewel of Dunamis, which legend claims can overcome any enemy. Grayson James, human agent of the ultra-secret Otherworld Bureau of Investigation, has orders to keep it from the wrong hands — or destroy it. What he doesn’t know is that Jewel is a woman, not a stone! But once he meets this precious gem, destroying her is the last thing on his mind . . .

Jewel, part goddess, part prophet, is a pawn in Atlantis’s constant power struggles. She needs Gray’s help to win freedom and uncover the secrets of her mysterious origins. Gray needs her wisdom to navigate monster-ridden Atlantis. But need blossoms into passionate love as they fight demons, dragons, vampires — and a prophecy that says the bond between them could destroy them both.

REVIEW: I have to say that I liked this book much better than Heart of the Dragon. Gray was a man after my own heart. He knew how to get things done, and yet wasn’t afraid to let Jewel do her thing when it was needed.

The one thing that I liked the most about this book was that once he met Jewel it was all about protecting her, and once he realized who she was there was no way that he was going to turn her over to his commanding officers.

This is probably my favorite book in the series.

The Nymph King
Atlantis bk 3

Females young and old, beautiful and plain crave Valerian’s touch. None can resist his blatant sensuality and potent allure…until he steals Shaye Holling from a Florida beach and holds her prisoner in his underwater kingdom.

The cynical Shaye wants nothing to do with the mighty warlord, but she’s inexplicably drawn to him. For underneath the warrior’s arrogant beauty lies a complex and powerful man. A man whose caress is like fire…

Now Valerian must fight for the privilege of claiming her as his own. Because there’s one thing Shaye doesn’t know.…

That when a nymph discovers his true mate, she’s his for life.

REVIEW: Okay this was is a really good book. Lots of HEAT!!! There are two stories in this one, and I have to say that both of them are great.

I really liked how once Valerian realized that Shaye was his mate, he did everything in his power to make her happy, and give her what she wanted even though she resisted with everything in her.

Once she realized though that he really did love her and would do anything for her, well that is when the real action began if you know what I mean *wink wink*.

This book is right up there with Jewel of Atlantis I think.

The Vampire’s Bride
Atlantis bk 4

He is Layel, king of the vampires, a master seducer no woman can deny. But since a rogue horde of dragons killed his beloved over two centuries ago, Layel has existed only for vengeance…until he meets Delilah.

Wary of love, the beautiful Amazon wants nothing to do with the tormented vampire. Yet there’s no denying their consuming desire every time he nears her.

Neither trusts the other—nor can they survive alone. For in an impossible game of the gods’ devising, they’ve been trapped on an island, about to face the ultimate challenge: surrender to the passion that will bind them forever…or be doomed to an eternity apart

REVIEW: Okay I wasn’t really excited about this book, and then I started to read it. It took me a while to get into it, but once I did, I was cheering on Layel and Delilah.

I have always enjoyed the character of Layel, as he seemed to have his own agenda, and we never knew exactly what that agenda was. In each book we have gotten different glimpses of a very complex man. One that is capable of a very intense love.

I have always been fasinated by the stories the Amazon women, and so I was really excited to discover that Layel’s heroine was going to be an amazon. However I do have to say that whenever I read her name the song “hey there Delilah” would pop into my mind and did become a bit distracting.

The conflict within this book is different from the other books in the series, and I have to say that it was a really good. I loved the fact that bored ‘Gods’ make them participate in a game for their lives. Especially as the ‘Gods’ could care less about what happens to them. They like nothing better than to play with other peoples lives.

I liked how Layel and Delilah both dealt with what they are given and also with each other.

Over all though I have to say that this is a really good book.

I do have to say that the eye candy on the cover of each book makes reading them worth while.

Heart of the Dragon gets a 3 out of 5
Jewel of Atlantis gets a 4 out of 5
The Nymph King gets a 4 out of 5
The Vampire’s Bride gets a 3.75 out of 5
Overall this series gets a 4.5 out of 5

Heart of the Dragon by Gena Showalter

Atlantis bk 1

Grace Carlyle’s world was about to change . . .

Deep in the jungle on the trail of her missing brother, Grace never expected to find a secret world populated by mythological monsters — nor guarded by a sword-wielding being whose beauty put mortal men to shame.

Darius en Kragin belongs to a race of shape-shifting warriors sworn to guard Atlantis and kill all travelers who stray within its boundaries. Yet when Grace stumbles into his realm, he finds himself tempted to betray his centuries-old vow.

Now their forbidden love will either bring their worlds together — or tear them both apart.

REVIEW: I have been looking for this book ever since I discovered Gena several months ago, only no one had it and I couldn’t order it, so I was very happy when I saw it in the store quite by accident. I got this past week-end and immediately dived into it, and then I stopped because the story just wasn’t grabbing, it had a very slow start, however once I bite the bullet (or book in this case) and just read, I began to enjoy it. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I love her Lord’s of the Underworld Series, but it was a good book.

The thing that bugged me the most I think was that I never really felt the chemistry and connection between Darius and Grace. I loved Darius, and barely tolerated Grace. Compared to the other heroines of Gena’s not only in this series but in her other books/series, Grace comes off as annoying, at least to me. The story was also only so-so for me. I can’t really pinpoint one particular thing that bugged me, it was all just sort of blah.

I give this book a 3 out 5.

The Darkest Pleasure

The Darkest Pleasure
by
Gena Showalter
Rating 4.5
Reyes is a man possessed. Bound by the demon of pain, he is forbidden to know pleasure. Yet he craves a mortal woman, Danika Ford, more than breath and will do anything to claim her—even defy the gods.
Danika is on the run. For months she’s eluded the Lords of the Underworld, immortal warriors who won’t rest until she and her family have been destroyed. But her dreams are haunted by Reyes, the warrior whose searing touch she can’t forget. Yet a future together could mean death to all they both hold dear.…
REVIEW: This book didn’t disappoint. Gena has been teasing us about this relationship from the first book and I have to say that I really like how she brought about the culmination of the relationship between Reyes and Danika. I did however think that there were some things that we could have done without but over all I really liked this book. I really like how she has sets up the next book in the current book, however I didn’t see that in this book so I went and checked out her website and discovered that next book will be out in May.

The Darkest Kiss

Rating 4.5

The Darkest Kiss by Gena Showalter

She has tempted many men…but never found her equal. Until now. Though she has lived for centuries, Anya, goddess of anarchy, has never known pleasure. Until Lucien, the incarnation of death–a warrior eternally doomed to take souls to the hereafter. He draws her like no other. And Anya will risk anything to have him.

But when the merciless Lord of the Underworld is ordered by the gods to claim Anya herself, their uncontrollable attraction becomes an anguished pursuit. Now they must defeat the unconquerable forces that control them, before their thirst for one another demands a sacrifice of love beyond imagining…

Gena Showalter is a hit and miss author for me however this series gets better with every book. I thought that Madoox and Ashlyn were good together until Lucien and Anya. These two are the perfect match for each other. This is a book that I highly recommend.

Savor me Slowly by Gena Showalter

This book is part of a series. I didn’t like the first one to much however I really enjoyed this one. Mishka makes a very interesting heroine, and then there is Jaxon, the man behind the persona. I was rooting for them the entire book.
