Wolf’s Ascension by Lauren Dane

cover77019-mediumTitle:    Wolf’s Ascension
Series:  Cherchez Wolf Pack Book #1
Author:  Lauren Dane
Genre:  Erotica, Sci-Fi, Fantasy

Blurb:   Attacked by werewolves. Mated to the Alpha. Declared a queen. Kari is having an unusual day.

In the Cherchez wolf pack, loyalty is earned, not given. For Andreas, the pull he feels toward Kari cannot be ignored, a physical bond immediate and unbreakable—though Andreas wants to win Kari’s heart as well as her body. But someone isn’t happy about his new mate, and Kari’s just beginning to trust him and the pack when attempted murder threatens their newfound happiness.

Andreas brings out the deepest hunger in Kari, a sexy, passionate side of herself she never knew was there. And her new life as werewolf queen is turning out to be surprisingly emotional in other ways, as well. The bond she feels with Andreas extends to the others in the pack—others she’s now bound to defend.

And as the pack’s enemies are about to discover, Kari will do anything to protect her new family.

Thoughts:  I have to say, I didn’t really know what to expect with this one!  I have read a number of Lauren Dane books over the years, and I didn’t realize that she had a shifter book under her belt.  It was interesting to see such a different side to this author, and I have to say I really enjoyed it.  It’s a good thing that it’s part of series, because I could definitely see a series forming with all these great characters.

A lot of the shifter stories feel somewhat rushed, but Lauren Dane is a gifted and brilliant writer and she takes her time to tell the story.  Dane sets a nice pace, keeping things interesting without rushing or drawing them out but holding your attention at the same time.  I loved seeing this side of Dane’s writing, and I loved the story between Andreas and Kari.  It will be interesting to read the next installment by Dane, Sworn to the Wolf, due out March 21st.  I’m looking forward to it!
