Title: Savor the Danger

Series: Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor bk 3

Author: Lori Foster

Genre: Contemporary

The one woman he couldn’t have was the only woman he desired…

She may be aloof, and more pretty than gorgeous, but Alani Rivers is the kind of woman a hot-blooded mercenary can’t forget, no matter how hard he tries. So when Jackson Savor wakes up next to the naked, sleeping beauty—with no memory of what happened—he knows he’s been drugged… even if Alani doesn’t.

After she was kidnapped, Alani swore she’d never trust another man again. Still, something about this strong, sexy hero with the tender touch makes her want to believe him. As Jackson hunts downs a mysterious intruder, he swears he’ll move heaven and earth to keep Alani safe. But what really happened that night? And will the truth bring them closer than they ever thought possible—or put Alani squarely in harm’s way again?

From the way that Jackson behaved in Trace of Fever I knew that he would be an irreverent hero. A lot like Joe from from Just Say Joe (one of my personal favorite books of Lori’s) and Michael from My Man Michael. Jackson is a perfect mix of Joe and Micheal in his humor and his intensity, which ahs made him one of my top 3 favorite of Lori’s hero.

He has had a thing for Alani for awhile and it drives him nuts that he ca’t remember what happened between them the night where he finally got her in bed. Some of my favorite parts of this book are are when he is trying to tell her what happened between them.

When he asks her in the grocery store if she have him a hummer to get her over her mad I laughed out loud. The rest of hat conversation is just mean on her part but I have to say that Jackson deserved it.

What I liked about this book is that we get to know Jackson and Alani better. We get Alani’s side of what happened when she was kidnapped by the human traffickers. She is a strong woman and now that she has decided that she wants Jackson and her feelings for him she is all in.  What she doesn’t count on is the people that are after Jackson and now after her.

Now that Jackson has finally gotten Alani into his bed he should be celebrating, but it appears that it has put her in the crosshairs of someone that is after him. Now he not only has to deal with Alani’s brother dealing with him and Alani, but Arizona, and someone that is trying to kill him.

There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about this book. The interactions between all the characters was at times funny, and other times intense.  The dialogue was probably the thing that I loved the most about this book. The interaction between Jackson and Alani spoke of a couple that had known each other a while and had finally decided to act on the feelings that they had for each other, which is where us the reader came into the relationship.

There is also a secondary relationship that we see start to develop between the mysterious Arizona and a bounty hunter Spencer. We just get the beginnings of this potential relationship and it sets up for the next book in the series which is Arizona’s book. Just from what we get in this book I am excited to read this book.

If you have read the other books in this series then you won’t want to miss this book as I think it is the best book in the series so far.

No one is free of wounds from their personal history-yet some go deeper than others. Though stronger for it, everyone needs some support to overcome their stormy pasts. And nothing helps more than two big, strong arms pulling one tightly in to an even bigger heart; a man who knows how to respect and protect. These stories feature women who are survivors of bitter pasts, and the good men who have become stronger for understanding them. Together they can overcome anything, with a love born of compassion.

This is one of those really great summer reads. There are six short stories about couples overcoming their pasts and finding love.

Each of these stories is both heartbreaking and joyful as it shows just how those that have come from horrible backgrounds can overcome them.

All of the proceeds from this book go to One Way Farm. One Way Farm is a haven for abused and neglected kids.

This is one book that I feel everyone should buy, regardless of whether you read it or not. We adopted the boys from the foster care system, and during that process we had to go through several hours of training. In that training they told us in almost graphic detail what some of these kids have gone through. It is enough to make you sick.

I am so grateful for places like One Way Farm that provide a safe haven to these innocent children.

Trace of Fever

Trace of Fever

Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor bk 2

Lori Foster

Caught in the crossfire of vengeance and desire…

Undercover mercenary Trace Rivers loves the adrenaline rush of a well-planned mission. First he’ll earn the trust of corrupt businessman Murray Coburn, then gather the proof he needs to shut down the man’s dirty smuggling operation. It’s a perfect scheme—until Coburn’s long-lost daughter saunters in with her own deadly plan for revenge.

With a smile like an angel and fire in her eyes, Priscilla Patterson isn’t who she seems to be. But neither is the gorgeous bodyguard who ignites all her senses. Joining forces to plot Coburn’s downfall, Priss and Trace must fight the undeniable heat between them. For one wrong move, one lingering embrace will expose them to the wrath of a merciless opponent….

Because of how When You Dare starts I knew that Trace’s book would be interesting,,,and it is.

Trace is on a mission to completely destroy those that prey on women, especially human traffickers. He has placed himself in the perfect position to take down one of the worst  criminals in his mind. What he didn’t count on was a little slip of a thing showing up and putting a crimp in his plans. As soon as Priss appears claiming to be the daughter of the criminal he is determined to take down he knows that she is not what she seems and that if he isn’t careful she will do more than just derail his case but also his life.

Priss is on a mission to destroy the man that destroyed her mom and in turn destroyed her life. She thought that she has prepared for everything, that is until she walks in and sees Trace. She wasn’t expecting him, and his determination to stop her.

For the most part I really liked this story. Trace is the perfect hero in this story. There wasn’t much about him that I didn’t like. His need to protect Priss and stop her from ruining his case, as well as his need to make her his was completely believable. What I couldn’t understand was how he could be attracted to someone like her.

Priss however drove me nuts from the moment that she appeared. There was very little about her character that I liked. She refused to listen to Trace and constantly put herself in a position that made Trace have to divide his attention from the danger and protecting her.

There was one scene with Priss that I loved and that involved Jackson…and a….well I will let you discover that scene I’ll just tell you that Trace wasn’t very happy about it.

Despite my feelings toward Priss I really liked this story, mainly because of Trace and Jackson and their interactions with each other.

One of the tings that I really about this series is the very serious topic that is raised and that of the female sex slave trade. Lori really pulls no punches when it comes to what happened to Priss, and what happens to the women.

Interview with Lori Foster + giveaway

We want to thank Lori for being here today. Both Melanie and I love her books, and I think between the two of us we own all of them.

TBRG: Can you tell us a bit about your latest series Men that Walk the Edge of Honor?

LF: I got the idea for this series while seeing the movie, “Taken.” In that movie, Liam Neeson is on a quest to rescue his daughter from human traffickers. By necessity, he has to walk past a lot of young ladies who aren’t his daughter to keep from tipping off the bad guys. That broke my heart! I wanted a hero who would somehow manage to rescue everyone – thus an idea was born.

TBRG: Who has been the biggest influence on your writing?

LF: I can’t name one particular influence. There have been plenty of writers who influenced me just by writing amazing stories. Johanna Lindsey, Linda Howard, Catherine Coulter, Julie Garwood, Kresley Cole, Jayne Ann Krentz… they’re some of my absolute favorite authors. There are too many incredible storytellers out there for me to name them all. Reading their work makes me want to be a better writer.

TBRG: What is the one thing your readers would be the most surprised to know about you?

LF: I’m such an open book on all my social networking sites; I doubt there’s much that interested readers don’t already know. I love scary movies, then action flicks. I’m not a fan of chick flicks or dramas. I love MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) and I’ve met quite a few fighters. (Did the fan-girl thing and got my picture taken with each one!) I am amazingly terrified of bugs. :::Shudder:::: Love being near water, but not so much in it. Love scented candles and burn a bunch whenever I’m writing. I really enjoy hard rock music. Love to be out and about in the RV, love to be in nature, not a fan of expensive restaurants or clothes, or really anything/place fancy. I live in my blue jeans, prefer to be barefoot but will tolerate high heeled sandals or boots when pressed. Detest pantyhose; they were created by the devil. ;-) Love animals and anyone else who loves them, and I have no tolerance for anyone who hurts children or pets, or really, for cruelty of any kind.

TBRG: Where is the one place you have always wanted to go, a place on your bucket list?

LF: It’s not an unreachable goal, but I’d love to get to Hawaii some day. I haven’t yet because it’d be so difficult to take my menagerie of pets with me. LOL. And I don’t like to leave them for long.

TBRG: Who are some of your go to authors, and what are you reading right now?

LF: Right now I’m not reading anything. I’ve been slammed with work that just breathing is an effort. But as soon as I get a little room, I want to read the newest Johanna Lindsey and I’m two books behind on Kresley Cole. Can’t wait to catch up with them both!

TBRG: If you weren’t writing and keeping us in books (thanks for that by the way), what would you be doing?

LF: I have NO idea. My creativity is limited to creating characters – not in altering the universe. LOL.

TBRG: Who is on your playlist when you are writing?

LF: I have a mix of great music – mostly Kid Rock, KORN, and Marilyn Manson, but also some Aerosmith, Macy Gray, Nirvana, Uncle Kracker, etc…

TBRG: Where do your ideas/characters come from?

LF: Who knows? I can tell some specifics – like the connection to the movie, “Taken,” for my current “Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor” series with “When You Dare,” “Trace of Fever,” “Savor the Danger,” and then in 2012, “A Perfect Storm.” And my love of MMA inspired my fighter series – Causing Havoc, Simon Says, Hard to Handle, My Man Michael, and Back in Black.

Other than that… I don’t really know. Ideas crowd into my brain and I just go with it. I let the characters take me on a journey.

TBRG: Are you a planner or a fly by the seat author?

LF: Definitely a panster. If I did a lot of pre-planning, I’d be bored before I ever started the story, because it’d already feel “done” to me. I always have a visual first. I see a scene, and build from there. It’s a process for me, discovering who the characters are in the scene, why they’re there, the conflicts, and how they’ll resolve them. I’m a very visual person. I sort of see my stories the way many would watch a movie. And I write it out as I see it.

TBRG: In this series you tackle a topic that is swept under the rug a lot, that of the female sex slave trade, what made you decide to write about it?

LF: I’ve done a ton of research for the human-trafficking element in this series, and educated myself in the process. I knew it existed, and I knew it was a big problem. I had NO idea it was so wide-spread and overwhelming. I read many reports that listed Ohio as a “hot bed” for human traffickers. I read about children being sold, and I want to go on a rampage against the evil in the world. There is so much abuse, so much tragedy in our world.

By writing about it, I have the opportunity to make others more aware, to get people talking.

TBRG: I think it is in Trace’s book you talk about how there are no laws, and no way to catch the people doing this, was this a shock to you? Are the states trying to change this?

LF: It was a HUGE shock to me! It’s amazing how our legal system works – that they need a specific law to address specific crimes in order to really prosecute heinous criminals. Luckily, many states are getting on board and really becoming aware of – and actively involved in fighting – human trafficking.

One thing I learned, too, is that Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher have a foundation that does a lot to fight human trafficking. They were a great source of information. It’s called the DNA Foundation:  http://demiandashton.org/

TBRG: What are you working on now?

LF: Writing-wise, I’m finishing up the 4th book in the series, which won’t be out until May 2012, titled, “A Perfect Storm.”

Outside of writing, I’m doing promo galore for the current series and finalizing details for the 2011 “Reader and Author Get Together.” http://www.lorifoster.com/community/readergettogether.php

Busy busy – as always!

Lori Foster completed ten novels before her first book, Impetuous, was sold. It was published in 1996. Since then, she’s maintained a pace that might have felled a lesser person, often writing six or more romance novels every year. Having cracked national bestseller lists with Jamie in 2005, there’s been no stopping her.  In the past six years, her novels, and anthologies featuring her work, have claimed a combined 115 weeks on The New York TimesUSA Today and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists.  Hard to Handle reached the number two spot on Times’ paperback bestseller list. She’s the recipient of the RT Book Reviews Career Achievement Award for both Contemporary Romance and Series Romantic Fantasy.

That said, there’s no doubt that the trio of heroes she’s created for her back-to-back novels, WHEN YOU DARETRACE OF FEVER and SAVOR THE DANGER, published in May, June and July 2011 respectively, are strong, skilled, relentless and kind of scary. Her male protagonists—Dare, Trace and Jackson—are connected to each other by their work.  Each is an undercover mercenary, committed and specially trained to fight and win.  Each combats corruption by whatever means necessary. None of them expect to fall in love.  But the women Lori’s put in extreme, dangerous situations, and challenged to be stronger than they ever thought possible, are not like anyone—mercenary, government or “civilian”—that Dare, Trace or Jackson have imagined coming into their lives.  Molly, Priscilla and Alani are far more than they appear.  They’re each stronger and more courageous than even they know. Behind those soft exteriors lie three women ready to do anything necessary to protect those they love.  They just haven’t realized it yet.

On Lori’s fb page this last week she asked which of her series was everyone’s favorite…I want to know this as well. One lucky commenter will win a copy of the first book in her new series When you Dare. Contest ends on Friday May 27, 2011.

When you DARE

When you DARE

Men Who Walk the Edge of Danger series bk 2

Lori Foster

The tougher they are, the harder they fall…

Professional mercenary Dare Macintosh lives by one hard and fast rule: business should never be personal. If a cause appeals to him and the price is right, he’ll take the mission he’s offered. But then the lovely Molly Alexander asks him to help her track down the men who’d had her kidnapped—and for the first time, Dare’s tempted to combine work with pleasure.

Fiercely independent, Molly vows to trust no one until she’s uncovered the truth. Could the enemy be her powerful, estranged father? The ex-fiancé who still holds a grudge? Or the not-so-shy fan of her bestselling novels? As the danger heats up around them, the only anchor Molly has is Dare himself. But what she feels for him just might be the most frightening thing of all…

Okay I have to admit that I think that Lori writes the best Alpha males. There hasn’t been single one of her males that I haven’t fallen in love with and wanted for my own. Once again she delivers a great story with an awesome male Dare and a great heroine Molly.

Dare is a protector. He feels like it is his responsibility to help those that can’t help themselves and are in danger, either from themselves or from others. So when he finds Molly in the absolute worst place imaginable and in horrible shape he rescue’s her. There is just something about Molly that gets to him, and he has to find out who did this Molly. The more that he is with her, the more he wants to protect her not because she is in need of protecting but because he HAS to protect her for his own well-being as she has become very important to him, and it is now personal.

I have to say that there was nothing I didn’t like about Dare, from his personality to his looks, to how he not only treats Molly but those he considers under his care, from his girls (not going to tell you who they are) to his best friend and personal assistant Chris, to his partner Trace and Trace’s sister Alani.

Molly is one of those heroines that I really liked. She decided that she wasn’t going to allow what had happened to her to control her but that she was going to control it. She insisted on being with Dare as he investigates every aspect of her life to find out who paid to have her kidnapped.

From the moment that Dare rescues Molly they have this connection. Dare begins to understand that there is more to Molly than being from a very wealthy family and also successful in her own right. The tension and  chemistry between these two as they work together is great.

I could go on and on about this book and how Molly and Dare both individually and together are such great characters but I think I am going to let everyone else discover how awesome they are and how great this book is all by themselves. For me personally Lori has hit the ball out of the park on this series. These guys may be close to bumping the men of Visitation down on my list of favorite hero’s by Lori. I can hardly wait to see what she does with Trace in his book up next.

The Guy Next Door

The Guy Next Door

Anthology

Lori Foster, Susan Donovan and Victoria Dahl

Ready, Set, Jett by Lori Foster
A vacation from her no-strings romance with her sexy next-door neighbor. That’s what Natalie Alexander needs to get her head— and heart—together. But her solo trip south turns into a disaster when gorgeous Jett Sutter turns up with another challenge.
Gail’s Gone Wild by Susan Donovan
Single mom Gail Chapman insists on chaperoning her teenage daughter’s spring-break trip to Key West. But she never expects to face temptation—in the hunky form of Jesse Batista, the mysterious man in the cottage next door.
Just One Taste by Victoria DahlAll-work-and-no-play businessman Eric Donovan won’t be distracted by a “business

woman” who’s all wrong for him. Beth Cantrell owns a woman’s erotica shop! And she has a juicy little secret. Can she tempt him to put pleasure before business for once?

Okay I will admit it, I got this book because I LOVE Lori Foster. There have been very few books of hers that I don’t like. What I liked even better is that it kicks off her new series.

Natalie and Jett are awesome together. Both of them secretly want more from each other than the booty calls that they have been giving each other. Not that they aren’t AMAZING booty calls. Natalie is very insecure as a person, and I have to say that coming from her background it is completely understandable. She doesn’t understand how anyone could want her, especially her extremely hot neighbor Jett.

Jett comes from a completely different background than Natalie and while he has wanted her for a long time, and is determined to take their relationship from just sex to an actual relationship. When Natalie looks like she is going to say no, help comes in the form of an unexpected source. Jett takes full advantage and presses his suit.

This book is the perfect precursor to her new series.

Grade B+

I wasn’t sure what to expect from Gail’s Gone Wild, having nor read a lot of Susan Donovan books, but I was pleasantly surprised with this book.

Gail’s teenage daughter and her best friend want to go to Spring Break their senior year of high school, and Gail is having none of it, that is until she comes up with the perfect compromise. Spring Break in the Keyes, with her as the chaperon. She figured that she would spend the time curtailing the girls activities and reading on the beach. What she wasn’t counting on was Jesse her neighbor.

Jesse has been burned by vacation bunnies in the past, and is determined that this time he will protect himself from his vacation neighbor. What he didn’t plan on was falling hard for her. He convinces his friends on the island to hide who he really is so that he can discover if she is with him for him or because of who he is.

This is a really cure story set in an amazing location. I enjoyed tooling around the Keyes on the back of Jesse’s bike, and seeing all the sights that he showed Gail, not to mention all the heat that was going on between the two of them.

Grade B+

Unfortunately Just One Taste was a bust for me. This is the first book in a series, and I wish it hadn’t been a build up but that we had had an actual ending. In the beginning I was invested in the characters, and I wanted to know more about them, and how it was all going to end for them. And then the end came and there was no resolution, just a to be continued.

Grade C

Overall I liked this anthology. If you like these authors then you will want to check this one out, and if you haven’t read them before this is the perfect way to start reading them.

Back in Black

Back in Black
SBS bk 8

Lori Foster

SBC president Drew Black is as controversial as they come. But the hot-headed entrepreneur is a perfect match for his popular sports club venture: uncompromising and extreme. Maybe too extreme. With a reputation for saying what he thinks, Drew’s been causing a lot of friction. That’s why someone’s been called in to clean up his image—before he does any permanent damage.
The lucky lady is Gillian Noode, a PR expert who’s smoothed out the rough edges on many a man. But Drew is rougher than anyone she’s ever met, and he refuses to change for any woman, for any reason. To make matters more complicated, Gillian’s starting to like him raw. Now, opposites aren’t only attracting, they’re igniting. But in the rising heat, which one of them will end up on top?

REVIEW: There are some series that get better with each book and this is one of those series. From the first book Causing Havoc I was hooked, and with each book more so. One of my favorite characters has always been Drew.

At the end of My Man Michael we got to see a side of Drew that no one else had. It was one short paragraph at the very end, but it gave a glimpse of Drew. From the moment that this book started I couldn’t put it down. Drew is a man that is very very comfortable with who he is and he makes no apologies for it.

He has made the sport MMA what it is, and has built up the SBC into one of the best sports organizations. He takes crap from no one and is like a rapid dog in his defense of the sport and his fighters. He has this public persona that when viewed from the outside you think that he goes for the groupies that are in his words “all plastic” at least that is what Gillian thinks when she comes across him for the first time after taking the job to make him over. What she didn’t count on was him, and the fact that he tolerated those groupies for the sake of the sport, but when it came to choosing a woman of his own he wants a “real woman”.

Gillian on the other hand is on to his game. There is nothing that he can do that will shock her in regards to his personality. What she hadn’t counted on was the intense attraction to him.  It doesn’t take her long to figure out that he is mostly bark, unless it comes to his sport. She is a strong very capable woman that knows what she wants in life and is not afraid to go after it. She knows the risks involved when she decides to get personal with Drew, but deems him worth it.

One of my favorite parts of the this books is when Drew……………………to make sure that Gillian gets what she wants. Sorry to read what he does you have to read the book.

If you haven’t read the other books in this series it is okay, as there isn’t much from the other guys in this book as there has been in the past books. I would have liked more from the other guys to see what was going on in their lives.

I give this book a 4.5 out of 5

Jaime

Jaime
Visitation bk5

Lori Foster

goodreads
Carrying a naked woman up a mountain in a driving storm – now there’s a way for a man to start the day. But for Jamie, the unconscious redhead in his arms is an intruder, one who could bring harm. He has his reasons for hiding out in this mountain cabin; for keeping his emotions hidden; for never, ever getting too close to anyone. And he’s not about to stop now.

Before she passed out in his bed, she said her name was Faith – an appropriate name since he has to take her at her word. Who is she? Why is she here? Who sent her? And what is she doing to him? Jamie’s used to feelings of wariness, isolation, of being on guard. What he’s not used to is this dangerous, nearly uncontrollable new emotion raging through him.

Jamie wants Faith, as a man wants a woman…and it may already be too late to turn back…

REVIEW: If there could be a favorite character in a series well then for me it has been Jaime in this series, well him and a few of the secondary characters. By the time I was able to read this book I had read the others in the series a couple of times. So I really wanted to know Jaime’s story.

Jaime is a man that keeps himself very private. When he moved to Visitation he isolated himself so much that no one knew him and he liked that. Then Joe came to town and with him Luna and his sister Alex, then came Bryan and Shay, and then Bruce and Cyn, and then Julie and Clint. It wasn’t so much then men but the women that wouldn’t allow him to hide up in his mountain. They all snuck in began to matter to him.

After reading Jaime’s story and finding out how abused he had been well then you understand why he didn’t want anyone close to him. So when he finds Faith on his mountain well he is very very wary and doesn’t trust her. However he wants her.

Faith is in danger and doesn’t know from where or why. All she knows is that she needs Jaime. However Faith is keeping a HUGE secret from him, one that may make him hate her.

I loved how this story developed. How Jaime bit by bit allowed Faith in. How he slowly began to make changes to his appearance. Shaving his mountain man beard, and cutting his hair. One of my favorite scenes is when the men (Joe, Bryan, Bruce and Clint) see him after he cleans up and how they complain about how his good lucks will make the women love him more.

The one thing that I really really liked however was the when Jaime was in danger and needed help everyone was there to help him. Letting him know that he mattered to them. They were all their to support him as his world was rocked and shifted on it’s axis. One of the best scenes was when everyone was crowding him, wanting to know what was going on and wanting to help Jaime threw everyone under the bus, telling them things that they either didn’t know, or had just found out, in a bid to distract everyone from him.

The chemistry between Jaime and Faith was explosive, and once again Ms. Foster made me laugh at times and fan myself at other times.

If you haven’t already read this series then I suggest that you go and correct this mistake immediately.

I give this book a 4.75 out of 5

Unexpected

Lori Foster

back cover

Meet Ray Vereker, a female Rambo with quick reflexes, sharp instincts, a hot body, and a bad case of morning sickness…

OH, YES…
Eli Conners expected hired mercenary Ray Vereker to be a tank of a guy with forty tattoos—not a gorgeous creature with considerable karate skills. While Eli certainly needs Ray’s help, he thinks she could use a little of what he’s offering…a down-and-dirty, body-scorching passion of the forever kind…

OH, NO…
Ray’s as good as any man when it comes to storming enemy compounds and loading an AK-47, but Eli’s strong sensuality and gentle touch leave her shaken and stirred. And really, who could blame a girl for succumbing to mind-blowing temptation in the steamy jungle? But now it’s back to business. If only Ray wasn’t feeling hot, bothered, dizzy, and just a little bit, well, queasy…

OH, BABY…
The last thing either of these unlikely lovers expects is to be expecting. Suddenly, Ray’s precise, no-nonsense mission is veering wildly off course, derailed by raging hormones, out-of-control desire, and a delirious love that is completely unexpected…

REVIEW: This is one of those books that makes you smile. From the moment that I started I couldn’t put it down till I had finished it.

Eli and Ray are exactly like the back cover describes them. Eli is strong and sure. Ray is used to getting what he wants. Neither one of them think that they have anything in common. That is until they start talking about their pasts. Then they discover they do have a few things in common. This just makes the sparks fly hotter.

When they get back to the real world Eli figures that Ray will want nothing more to do with her, so she skips out. She never expected him to come after her, so when he does, she is left floundering. What he doesn’t expect is the surprise that she has for him.

If you have never read a Lori Foster book, I suggest that you do and add this book to your pile of must reads.

I give this book a 4.75 out of 5.

You can purchase the book here, here and here.
